The LSU AgCenter and Crescent City WIC teamed up to encourage client to have an Active Life & Healthy Life by displaying colorful banners, provided by the AgCenter in Jefferson Parish and funded by Snap Education. Area nutrition agent, aren Jones was thrilled to learn that the local WIC office in Gretna was using the theme of physical activity for their parents. She also brought a free-standing display with booklets featuring the benefits of exercise. There are 50 fun activities for the whole family included.

Regular physical activity can lead to a longer, healthier life. Everyone, no matter what age, needs to keep their body moving on a regular basis. Remember, our bodies were made to move.

Youth need 60 minutes or more of moderate or vigorous aerobic activity every day, vigorous aerobic activity at least 3 times a week, and muscle and bone strengthening activities at least 3 days a week. Infants, toddlers and preschoolers need regular physical activity, too. This group requires age-appropriate play for short bursts.

Adults need 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity or a combination of the two each week. It is recommended adults have 2 or more days of muscle-strengthening activities, also. Older adults need the same activity listed above in addition to adding exercises that improve balance. Pregnant women should still be able to be physically active, and they are advised to consult their doctor.
