Species Information

Swine Exhibitors: Only circle one breed type. All crossbred barrows show as barrow, but breed barrows can show with their respective breed. The barrow division will be shown by weight. All breeds will be represented in this one division. (Barrow is a male pig that has been castrated.)The Allen Parish, Southwest District and LSU Shows will all be a breed type show. There will be five breed types (Duroc, Hampshire, Yorkshire, Cross and AOB), also one barrow division will be shown. The breed type characteristics are available in the 4-H Office. There will be specific times for swine breed type classifications. Read your show schedule carefully!

Sheep Exhibitors: As per State-Federal Regulatory policy; all market lambs must have official USDA Scrapie Tags in their ears in order to be eligible for exhibition at the district and state show. All registered breeding sheep must have an official USDA Scrapie Tag in their ear or may be identified with a tattoo. The tattoo must be typed on the original registration paper. Commercial Ewes must have an official USDA Scrapie tag. All Breeding sheep must have a flock or breeder tag, Tattoo, or Microchip that matches the Registration papers presented at the show to be eligible of exhibition.

Goat Exhibitors: As per State-Federal Regulatory policy; all market goats must have official USDA Scrapie Tags in their ears in order to be eligible for exhibition at the district and state show. All registered breeding goats must have an official USDA Scrapie Tag in their ear or may be identified with a tattoo. The tattoo must be typed o =n the original registration paper. Commercial does must have an official USDA Scrapie Tag. All Breeding Goats must have a flock or breeder tag, Tattoo, or Microchip that matches the Registration papers presented at the show to be eligible of exhibition. All Louisiana Bred Goats must be tagged in the left ear with a valid LA Bred Tag to be eligible to compete for LA Bred Awards. The only exception will be ADGA sanctioned breeds and pygmies will have the option of attaching the LA Bred tag to the collar/chai/lead if it follows LMGA validation guidelines. Breeding goats will be show in the following eight division: 1) Registered Boer; 2) Register Percentage Boer; 3) Pygmy; 4) Registered – Any other breed (AOB); 5) Commercial Doe (not registered); 6) Nigerian Dwarf; 7) Mytonics; 8) Nubians.

Registered Boer Bucks must be registered at 96.8% and above to be entered in the Full0blood/Purebred Boer Division. All Commercial does will be mouthed and weighted to determine age/class. Registered/recorded Commercial Does are not eligible for the Commercial Doe Show. Market Goat and Breeding Goat Showmanship classes will be offered at the LSU State Show. There will be 2 breeding oat showmanship classes (Meat type & Dairy).Exhibitor must exhibit their own animal.
