(03/14/16) BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU AgCenter and the American Sugar Cane League are sponsoring an informational seminar on sugar factory operations on April 20 at the AgCenter Sugarcane Station at St. Gabriel.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a welcome from AgCenter Vice Chancellor John Russin, American Sugar Cane League General Manager Jim Simon and Louisiana Sugar Cane Cooperatives General Manager Mike Comb.
In addition to an overview of the 2015 sugarcane crop, a variety of other topics will be discussed, said Audubon Sugar Institute department head Ben Legendre.
“We will cover the 2015 evaluation of sugarcane ripeners, sugar crystal size analysis, the 2015 molasses survey, syrup storage and other topics related to the sugarcane factory,” Legendre said.
A number of professionals in the sugarcane industry are on the agenda to discuss their area of expertise related to factory operations, he said.
Russin will give an update on the biofuels industry, and the meeting will conclude with a wrap-up and closing remarks by AgCenter associate Vice Chancellor Rogers Leonard.
Lunch and refreshments are being sponsored by the American Sugar Cane League.
