- Sustainable water management to be discussed at Texas conference
(03/19/19) BATON ROUGE, La. — Sustainable water management will be the main focus of the Southern Region Water Conference to be held at Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center in College Station, Texas, July 23 to 25.
LSU AgCenter irrigation specialist Stacia Conger, a member of the conference planning committee, said the event will include three days of informational sessions, tours and networking opportunities.
Conger, who works at the AgCenter Red River Research Station in Bossier City, invites farmers and ranchers, agricultural professionals, scientists, agency representatives, students and others to the conference.
“This conference will be held in Texas, but Louisiana and other Southern states will be well represented,” she said.
Each of the planning committee members is required to add a producer to the committee who is willing to be a presenter on the program.
“I will be presenting with Dr. Jay Hardwick and his son, Marshall, from Somerset Plantation in Tensas Parish,” Conger said.
The goal of the conference is to provide practical information on irrigation water management, nutrient and pest control to protect water quality, soil health and watershed management.
“Presentations at the conference will skip the complicated charts and use straightforward communication styles to deliver relevant information for the farmer,” she said.
Conger said the conference is partially funded by a Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant.
Other Southern universities represented on the planning committee include Mississippi State University, Prairie View A&M University, Auburn University, North Carolina State University, University of Georgia, University of Florida and University of Kentucky.
