4-H educational trip winners receive awards

(11/22/17) BATON ROUGE, La. — 4-H’ers from across the state spent several days in south Louisiana this week as part of a Louisiana 4-H educational award trip.

This year, 20 seventh- and eighth-grade 4-H members with outstanding achievement portfolios attended the trip held from Nov. 19 to 21, said LSU AgCenter youth development instructor and events coordinator Tanya Giroir.

The winners explored the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas by taking tours and eating local cuisine, Giroir said.

During the tour of New Orleans, the winners took a trip back in time at the National World War II Museum. In Baton Rouge, they visited Tiger Stadium to hear about its history and to stand on the sidelines where over 100,000 fans pack “Death Valley” for LSU football games.

Those who participated in the trip were Christopher Broussard, Ty Hebert, Aubrie Jeansonne and Kade Mire, Vermilion Parish; Jeanette Arton and Blayze Landry, Iberia Parish; Josie Blanchard, James Haddox and Abbey Poirier, St. Martin Parish; Zoë Cazayoux, Emma Long and Joseph Theall, Lafayette Parish; Kylie Cliburn, Ascension Parish; Benjamin Fontenot, Evangeline Parish; Garrett Gauthier, Avoyelles Parish; Darian Lessigne, Acadia Parish; Seth Mitchell, Lafourche Parish; Elaina Ruiz, St. James Parish; and James Sanders, LaSalle Parish.

This year’s trip sponsors included the LSU AgCenter, the LSU Rural Life Museum, Dixie Electric Membership Corporation (DEMCO), the LSU Athletics Department, the Louisiana 4‑H Foundation and the 4‑H state office.

The trip concluded with an awards luncheon at The Club at LSU Square on the Baton Rouge campus.
