Turfgrass meeting set for Jan. 5

(12/06/16) BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Turfgrass Association annual conference will take place Jan. 5, 2017, at Stadium Club South overlooking the south end zone in Tiger Stadium.

“We will host fantastic guest speakers, such as Dr. Tom Samples from the University of Tennessee, and many others,” said LSU AgCenter weed specialist Ron Strahan. “The conference will be a great learning experience and also serve as an opportunity to meet and mingle with over 250 professionals in Louisiana’s turfgrass industry.”

Topics on the program include:

– Better soils for better turf.

– The worst turf problems of 2016.

– Managing weeds in golf course ponds.

– Top 12 discoveries, innovations and technologies.

– Centipedegrass mowing height research.

– Handling pesticides safely.

This will also serve as an opportunity for pesticide recertification with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as a chance to obtain Golf Course Superintendents Association of America continuing education units, Strahan said.

“Last year we had record attendance,” he said, encouraging pre-registration at www.laturf.net or print the form on the website and mail it with a check. The cost is $50 per person.

Vendor Alley booths are available for $350 per booth, which includes conference registration for up to three booth representatives.

“It’s a great opportunity for vendors to interact with potential customers because conference attendees must visit vendors to get their vendor cards signed to be eligible for prizes,” Strahan said.
