(09/13/16) ALEXANDRIA, La. – A beef cattle
and forage field day will be held at the LSU AgCenter Dean Lee Research Station
on Oct. 20.
Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. at the State Emergency Evacuation Shelter south of the LSU of Alexandria campus along U.S. Highway 71.
The field tour will include presentations on the effect of fertilizer type on forage and water quality in ryegrass and Bermuda pastures, basic beef cattle nutrition, general grazing management, the use of 2,4-D herbicides in pastures and hayfields, using cover crops in pastures, the nutritional effects on fertility in beef bulls and uses of aerial drones.
An indoor program will include administrative comments and an update on the activities of the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association.
The field day will serve as credit for Phase II of the Louisiana Master Farmer Program and continuing education credit for Louisiana Master Farmer graduates. A meal will be provided following the program.
