Urban outreach forum set for Sept. 7 in New Orleans

(08/09/16) NEW ORLEANS – The LSU AgCenter and Southern University Ag Center will present an urban outreach forum to assess the needs of Orleans Parish and Jefferson Parish residents on Sept. 7.

The roundtable-style discussions will be held at the Pavilion of Two Sisters in the New Orleans Botanical Garden from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to begin the process for developing a sustainable urban program, said LSU AgCenter regional director Regina Bracy.

“We want to determine community needs and then form action committees to address the issues,” Bracy said. “We will have small roundtable discussions where attendees will be talked with, not talked to.”

Some of the topics to be addressed include:

– Health, nutrition and food access.

– Youth development.

– Healthy home.

– Family matters.

– Quality of life and enrichment.

– Community issues and safety

The public is invited to attend the forum, but Bracy asks that attendees contact her at 985-543-4129 so she has a count for the lunch.
