I manage the LSU Agricultural Center’s Cotton Fiber Testing Laboratory. All fiber properties which make up cotton quality contribute to its value as a raw material. As a commodity, cotton is marketed and manufactured based on these fiber properties. This lab provides fiber analysis to LSU scientists conducting studies aimed at developing, improving, and preserving the quality of cotton fiber. We also provide our services to other land-grant universities and private seed companies. The lab collaborates closely with the LSU AgCenter’s cotton breeding program in its effort to develop cotton varieties with high yields and superior fiber quality. We also collaborate with the team conducting the Official Cotton Variety Trials for the State of Louisiana.
