Camp Counselor Training

Teens interested in further developing there leadership skills and willing to accept the challenge that comes with working with youth in overnight and day camp situations need to complete the mandatory Camp Counselor Training.Benefits include:Traveling to new places, meeting new faces, networking with other teen from across the state, hanging out and partnering with adult volunteer and leaders, working hard and having fun!!

Interested youth must complete the training course which involves about 3 hours of online training and three hours in class training. Get a head start by completing the online course and print your certificates at “learn.lsuagcenter.com”. All users, including volunteers, will have to login using Google, Facebook or other service. Louisiana Camp Counselor Training is located under “Courses” then select “4-H Camp Counselor Training. If prompted to enter a code, the key is LACCT.

Challenge Camp 2025

February 27-28, 2025

Join us for this year’s 4-H “Beyond Ready” (space themed) Challenge Camp slated for February 27-28, 2025.

Challenge Camp is geared for 4-H members in the 7th and 8th graders. The camp is designed for youth to develop and build Leadership, Communication, and Teamwork Skills. This year’s adventure camp will be held at the Lions Camp in Anacoco. Registration for Challenge Camp is $70 which includes lodging, meals, shirt, activities, and transportation.

So if you're ready to accept the challenge of this fun-filled educational, challenging, and service-style camp be sure to sign-up. Positions are filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Limited spots, we will create a waiting list for open spots. Register via your 4H Online account. Registration opens 12/19 and closes 2/17. Applicants will be approved when payment is received!

Drones & Robotics Workshop

Ready to do some free flying with drones?

How about learning to program a drone on a computer to pilot a drone autonomously through an obstacle course or to complete a mission?

Then be sure to register for our drone workshop! We begin flight lessons at 9:00 am and conclude around noon on January 27 in the 4-H meeting room. 4-H’ers will get a quick course on drone terminology, career bingo, and complete their TRUST exam through a variety of hands-on fun activities. Afterwards youth will
create a simple robot of their choice.
Registration forms are available on our Facebook page, school club meeting and the 4-H Office.

EcOlympic Camp

EcOlympic Camp Due January 24, 2025

4-H’ers in 6th - 8th grade get ready to take part in an amazing race type of contest? The Alexandria Zoo will provide the backdrop for EcOlympics Camp 2025! Competition is slated for Monday, February 24 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Be prepared to move from station to station to complete your challenge stations to again items to complete the group’s final challenge. This year’s species of focus of management will include song birds. Each challenge is self explanatory and builds on the next. Winning teams will advance onto state competition.

In addition to challenge activities, 4-H’ers will create black bear enrichment items and build or hang bird feeders to attract migratory birds!

Entry fee is $20 per member. Teams consist of three to four members and a Jr. Leader member to serve as guide and assist the team. Registration includes zoo admission and lunch. Transportation will be provided. Contact the 4-H office today to register!

Emerald Achievement & Golden Clover Awards

Due January 27, 2025

The Louisiana State 4-H Foundation recognizes 4-H youth that excel in project work and leadership.The Emerald Achievement Award and Golden Clover Award gives recognition to 4-H Club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club and in their parish.

The objective of the program is to encourage project growth, a broad program of 4-H club activities over the years and the ultimate development of outstanding citizens.The recipient of the Emerald Achievement Award and Golden Clover Award can be proud of their contribution to their club and community.A club member may only win each of these awards one time.

Junior Leadership Conference

March 7-9, 2025

4-H’ers 14 years of age and older. If you are interested in developing leadership, teamwork skills, communication skills, hanging out with other teens and having a great time, then come register for the 2024 Jr. Leadership Conference. The conference begins March 7 at 2:00 pm and conclude March 9 at 11:00 am. Camp Grant Walker in Pollock.

The conference features a variety of workshops focused on leadership development, communication, teamwork, service learning, and time management. A key element of the conference is its youth-driven focus. State 4-H Executive Board members from across the state plan the sessions and teach all the educational tracks. Participants will rank their choice of tracks during registration and participate in two. Tracks to be released soon. Bring a few 4-H shirts for the t-shirt exchange!

Transportation is on your own or carpool with a fellow 4-H’er.This will be a first come first served basis. Registration is tentative, but normally due in February. 4-H office will begin registration via 4H Online, then 4-H’er completes online health form and media release through their online account. Livestock Updates

2025 Animal Validation & Livestock Entries

In order to exhibit your livestock, animals must be entered into your 4H Online account before possession deadline.

District Livestock Online entries active November 4 till December 20, 2024. All entries must be paid online or to the Rapides Parish Office by January 13.

District Rabbit and Poultry entries due online January 8.

Scholarships, Trips and Awards through Records

Record keeping is a life skill that will benefit you for years to come.The 4-H office has its parish contest each year; then sends top records onto the State contest.Scholarships can be won on the parish or even state levels based off your records.Great award trips are also sponsored by the State office.All you have to do is keep a record of your work in 4-H. A Record Book consist of the Project Book or a Project Summary (in place of the book) and up to three (3) years of your 4-H portfolio. If you would like a specific project book other than the 4th and 5th grade project books, contact the 4-H office.

Seed of the Month Club

LaSalle Parish 4-H Seed of the Month Club is still accepting members. Each month members will receive a packet of seeds and/or planting material with instructions on planting, watering, growing, and harvesting. To join,

Senior Honor Cords

4-H Honor Cord deadline is February 14, 2025.

The 4-H Honor Cord Award recognizes 4-H members who are graduating seniors. For 4-H youth to receive the 4-H Honor Cord, they must meet the following requirements:

Be a currently enrolled 4-H member and in good standing, Must be a graduating senior, Must have been enrolled in 4-H for at least 3 years of their high school career, Must have participated in at least one state sponsored activity.

Any interested Senior needs to contact the 4-H Office.

Shooting Sports News

Northern Regional and State 4-H Outdoor Skills Competition Dates

The dates for the Northern Regional Shoot are February 28-March 9.The Northern shoot will be held in Shreveport and Grand Cane.The State Outdoor Skills Competition is tentatively set for April 4-13 in Ascension and West Baton Rouge.

Youth that have completed a minimum eight (8) hours of training in their shooting discipline and satisfied their Louisiana Hunter Education requirements and have demonstrated a safe working knowledge of firearms or archery equipment are eligible to attend. Registration forms will be due to the 4-H office before January 23, 2025!

State 4-H Fashion Camp

2025 State 4-H Fashion Camp - “Fashion & Beyond Tour”

Get ready to explore the world of fashion in a fun and friendly atmosphere for 5th - 12th grade
4-H’ers.

Join the 4-H members of the State Fashion Board at one of their venues as they travel the state brining fashion to your fingertips. On January 15 the tour will stop at the River of Life Church in
Winnsboro. Activities will begin at 10:00 am and conclude at 3:00 pm. Tickets for the Tour are $35 per person. Space in limited to 50 members. Participants will need to supply a sack lunch, a standard size pillowcase (not king), and 2 crew socks of different pattern or color.

At the fashion tour stop, you will get a closer look at all aspects of the fashion world from spinning wheel demonstrations, modeling, upcycling and sewing basics and more through 10 multiple sessions with hands on activities.

Registration begins December 2, 2024 till January 6, 2025. The 4-H Office will begin your registration via your 4-H Online account.
Parents will complete registration and pay by credit card in the 4-H Online site.

Summer Camp 2025

Mark your Calendar!! It’s time to plan for 4-H Summer Camp! LaSalle camp dates are May 26-29, 2025.Parents: we will need overnight chaperones!

Members in grades 4-6 are eligible to attend 4-H camp and make great memories that will last a lifetime.

Deposits will be due April 7. Final balances due May 1. More details to come soon!
