Camp Catch a Phrase Contest

What’s a good theme for 4-H Camp 2025?-Send in your most creative ideas for a slogan -- in (7) words or less. Illustrations must accompany the phrase and will be part of the contest. The contest is open to all 4-H Club members. The winning slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy,” capturing the spirit of 4-H Camp Grant Walker. The art work and slogan be used in its entirety, or used as the concept for the final artwork. Logo and slogan will be on all publicity for camp and the camp T-shirt, and the winner will receive a monetary award.

Fall Cookery Contest

Fall Cookery -October 15 Check In 5:15 p.m. Judging begins at 5:30 p.m.
Start getting those ideals ready for the Fall Cookery Contest!
The October contest will consist of three (3) categories.

Rice Cookery - Must contain one (1) cup of rice and be focal point of dish.
Egg Cookery - 2 categories (Egg Dessert and Egg Other)- Dish must contain 4 Whole Eggs.
PB&J Sandwich Challenge - Traditional Sandwich with your own creative touches!

Flavors of Fall Culinary Class

Flavors of Fall Class-October 14

Who likes to spend time in the kitchen? Come join other youth in the “4-H kitchen” on October 14 and indulge in the bold and savory flavors of Fall during this culinary class.
This class will feature 3 recipes from around the world with the “Fall” season in mind. Participants will have a hands-on learning experience to sharpen their knife skills, food safety knowledge, and culinary skills.

The class is open to 4th-6th grade youth. A $30 registration fee is due by 10/7. Limited to 20 participants. Youth will also receive an incentive item upon attending the class. Call the 4-H office at 992-2205 for more information. Registration flyer available at club meetings and in the 4-H Office.

Geaux Grilling Workshop

Geaux Grilling Workshop-October 21

We will be lighting fires and cranking up the pits at the LaSalle 4-H Food Science Grilling Workshop. 7th - 12th grade 4-H’ers, join us for a hands-on learning experience into meat science, and food safety and preparation. Bring your appetite to the 4-H meeting room under the courthouse on Monday, October 21 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Closed-toe shoes are a must!
Return the $10 registration fee to help cover food costs to:

Join the Jr. Leader Club

The LaSalle Parish 4-H Jr. Leader Club is open to all 7th-12th grade
4-H members. Junior Leaders have fun developing leadership skills while helping younger 4-H’ers with their project work and assisting the less fortunate in their communities. This club also participates in numerous activities where members meet and make friends with other teenagers throughout the state.

The first meeting will be held on Monday, September 16th at 5:30 p.m.
Regular Jr. Leader meetings will be held at 4:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month in the 4-H Meeting Room, located at the back of the Courthouse. Yearly dues are $12.00 to become a Junior Leader!

2025 Market and Commercial Animal Validation

The 2025 LSU Market and Commercial Animal Validation is just around the corner. All show animals must be entered in your 4-H Online account before your respected Possession Date. Market and Commercial animals are required to be entered in your 4-H Online account, DNA collected , Ear Tagged before the possession / validation date. Any animals not validated by the validation deadline will not show at the Parish, District or State Livestock Show. Cost of validation is $7.00 per head.

Market Sheep & Goat: Commercial Heifers, Dairy, Ewe and Does; Beef, Sheep, Goat , Dairy, & Breeding Animals:

Any animal not validated or in possession by date stated will be ineligible to show at the 2025 LSU AgCenter Livestock Shows.

National 4-H Week Display Contest

October 7-11, 2024

Show your community or school what 4-H means to you. School clubs may setup displays inside or outside to promote National 4-H Week. Email your 4-H displays, additional activities, and any descriptions of the events should be sent to Mr. Silas at scecil@agcenter.lsu.edu . Pictures of displays should be sent the 4-H Office by October 25.

Outdoor Skills Club

The LaSalle Outdoor Skills - Shooting Sports program is running strong and membership continues to grow. The club focuses on firearm and archery equipment safety in addition to marksmanship, sportsmanship and character development. Workshops are taught by Volunteer Level I 4-H Shooting Instructors. The Outdoor Skills Club provides an opportunity for you to meet youth from across the parish, region and state through parish events, regional, and state competitions. To date the club offers the following disciplines: Archery, Shotgun, and .22 Rifle.

Interested youth may obtain a flyer that is being handed out at the club meetings this month.
A mandatory Safety/Registration Meeting will be held on September 24 starting at 6 p.m. at the Jena Community Center (Fair Barn).

Pet Show

LaSalle 4-H Pet Show-September 26

Come hangout with the Jr. Leaders and show everyone your adorable pet! Bring A Lawn Chair!
Registration is between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
The show will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. at the Jena Town Park (amphitheater area).
Each 4-H’er can only enter one pet!

1. Categories of pets include: Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Fowl (Birds), Fish, Reptile and any other.
Dogs must be on a leashes and cats in a pet carrier.

2. Elementary members will compete separately depending on the number of exhibitors. Jr. High and High School members will compete separately in categories where 5 or more pets are registered. In categories where less than 5 pets are registered, Jr. High and High School members will compete together.

3. In each category, animals will be judged on characteristics such as: best groomed, largest (height), smallest (height), most unusual, longest hair, prettiest eyes, etc.

4. This is a fun pet show. It is not necessary to have a registered animal. Grooming, cleanliness and temperament are important.

5. Each 4-H’er will receive a participation ribbon.4-H’ers whose pet wins a division will receive a rosette.

You will not want to miss all the fun and excitement. There will be a Best Trick competition awarded. The Owner/Pet Look-a-Like competition always allows for your creativity. So, get your canine friend ready for the miniature obstacle course!

The Great Pumpkin Workshop

Pumpkin Workshop-October 28

Attention Club members - 4th-6th grades.This year we will be holding the Pumpkin Workshop on October 28 in the 4-H Office’s downstairs conference room from 9:00 a.m.. - Noon. YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR OWN CLEANED-OUT PUMPKIN!

At the workshop you will be provided information on growing your own pumpkins, the nutritional value, and create pumpkin snacks. Don’t forget Glow-in-the-Dark Slime! The highlight of the workshop will be “pumpkin carving”. You will be able to carve your own pumpkin to bring home and display for Halloween. You must bring a pumpkin that has been cleaned and is ready for carving. *Hint* Thick walled pumpkins will need their insides scraped much more!
Return the registration form with $10.00 to the 4-H Office by October 16.
