4-H’ers are you keeping track of what you do in 4-H?
If so, you may be eligible to win awards!
A Record Book consist of the Project Book or a Project Summary (in place of the book) and up to three (3) years of your 4-H portfolio. The 4-H office has its parish contest each year; then sends top records to the State contest.Scholarships can be won on the parish or even state levels based off your records.Great award trips are also sponsored by the State office.All you have to do is keep a record of your work in 4-H. Records are Due April 8, 2024

A brief overview of awards includes: Jr. Achievement Award ($50), 7th & 8th Grade Achievement Award (LA Ed Trip), National 4-H Congress (Atlanta, GA), and the Orlando Leadership Summit (Disney).
4-H Short Course Contest, Clover College, & State Boards - June 18-21, 2024
4-H University is fast approaching. All 4-H’ers, who are currently in the 8th—12 grades are eligible to attend. This is your chance to compete statewide against other 4-H members for cash, educational trips and awards trips.4-H University is also an opportunity for you to explore the LSU campus, experience dormitory life, eat like a college student, visit with college faculty members, and learn more about possible career choices. DEADLINE May 13, 2024
For those who wish to attend 4-H U and not compete, there is always Clover College. (Once Tracks are Released)This is your chance to fit into a college student’s shoes and explore potential career opportunities. You will attend hand-on workshops and seminars on and off LSU campus. Then you will rejoin your parish for all the assemblies and other fun activities. DEADLINE May 13, 2024 Deadline for Fees, Health Forms and Code of Conduct is May 31.
Those who wish to run for a State Office or apply for a State Board Position need to contact the 4-H office for registration before April 10, 2024.State Board positions include: Fashion Board, SET Board, Citizenship Board, Food & Fitness, Executive Board and Regional Reps. Contact the 4-H office for an application or pick one up at your club meeting!!
2024 Beef Poster Contest-due March 11, 2024
Division I - Grades 4-6; Division II - Grades 7-9; Division III - Grades 10-12;Digital Poster - All Ages
Awards: Parish: Ribbons will be given to all contestants. First place winners will receive a rosette ribbon. Cash awards will be given to state winners.
Beef Poster Contest: Theme - “Bite into Beef” - State Division Winners: $200, $100, and $50
Create a poster centered around marketing and communicating the all-around health, nutrition, or promotion of Beef. Poster must be on 22” x 28” white poster board. Digital Submissions (May only compete in digital or poster, not both) - Digital entries must be designed using one of the following programs: Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or Canva. Digital designs should be formatted for “22 x 28” poster size prints. All digital entries must be saved in high-resolution 300 DPI in ALL of the following: original design file, .png file format, and a .pdf file format.
Place your name, address, age, grade in school and parish on the upper right corner of the back of the poster. *Poster should generate positive images of beef and beef products and not portray negative images of other food products. Get ideas from magazines, parents, friends, nutrition bulletins, meat publications. Sponsored by Louisiana Beef Industry Council.
2024 Dairy Poster Contest-Due March 11, 2024
Division I - Grades 4-6; Division II - Grades 7-8; Division III - Grades 9-12 Poster - State Division Winners: $100, $75, and $50
Awards: Parish: Ribbons will be given to all contestants. First place winners will receive a rosette ribbon. Cash awards will be given to state winners. Learn more about milk and milk products and importance they play to healthy bodies. Create a billboard encouraging and promoting the milk. Posters must be on 22” X 28” regular poster board. Do not attach anything more than 1/2” thick. No use of commercial brand names, jingles, slogans, signs or pictures that are trademarked or copyrighted. Place your name, address, age, grade in school and parish on the upper right corner of the back of the poster.
March 7-9, 2024 - “Leadership in Paradise”
4-H’ers 14 years of age and older.If you are interested in developing leadership, teamwork skills, communication skills, hanging out with other teens and having a great time, then come register for the 2024 Jr. Leadership Conference.The conference begins March 7 at 2:00 pm and conclude March 9 at 11:00 am.Camp Grant Walker in Pollock.
Transportation is on your own or carpool with a fellow 4-H’er.This will be a first come first served basis. Registration of $90 is due in the 4-H Office before 2/12/24. 4-H office will begin registration via 4H Online, then 4-H’er completes online health form and media release through their online account. The absolute last day to register online and turn in fee to 4-H Office is February 12, 2024.

February 23-24, 2024 LDWF will host a Hunter Education Class at the Courthouse in Jena. 4-H’ers needing to complete the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Hunter Education course should visit the department’s website. To find Hunter Ed opportunities, select the “Hunting” column. Next select “Hunter and Trapper Education” in the far left column. Finally, select “View Schedule or Register for Upcoming Course.”
Theme for February is “Motion/Action Photography
When you’re working with a moving subject, it’s important to anticipate where the action is likely to take place. Though you should be prepared for certain shots, it’s also important to be on the lookout for unexpected moments of interest. Walk around, explore, and experiment with different angles to get a full picture. Look up examples online if you need inspiration! Turn in only 1 picture each month.
Write name, grade, and club on the back of a 4X6 photo and turn in to your 4-H leader or email 4-H Agent BEFORE the End of the Month! Photos may be attached & emailed to: scecil@agcenter.lsu.edu
4-H Scholarships for graduating seniors are now available. Applications are to cover the last three years of 4-H work (no project book is required).
Applications will be emailed to senior 4-H members upon request for completion. Application deadline is February 19, 2024.
LaSalle Parish 4-H Seed of the Month Club is still accepting members. Each month members will receive a packet of seeds or planting material with instructions on planting, watering, growing, and harvesting. Project activity guides will also accompany the seeds that include recipes, and a wide variety of gardening education. Don’t miss the greatest 4-H camping experience ever! Camp experiences include tour of the marsh in an airboat, helping restore wetlands by planting marsh grass, crabbing, and touring the Tabasco Factory and Jungle Gardens at Avery Island, and much more! Open to 4-H’ers who have completed the ninth grade.
This is an experience you don’t want to miss! Applicants will select from four weeks in July.

Northern Regional and State 4-H Outdoor Skills Competition Dates
The dates for the Northern Regional Shoot are March 15-24. The Northern shoot will be held in Shreveport and Grand Cane.
The State Outdoor Skills Competition is tentatively set for April 12-21 also in Shreveport and Grand Cane.

Everybody loves delicious sweet strawberries!
LaSalle 4-H members will have the opportunity to sell strawberry
flats. A portion of the proceeds each member sells will be applied towards 4-H’ers attending summer camp, LOST camp, or 4-H University.
Orders and payment will be due to the 4-H Office March 13. Deliver date is set for March 21, 2024. Pickup of berries at courthouse between 3:00 and 6:00pm.

Mark your Calendar!! It’s time to plan for 4-H Summer Camp! LaSalle camp dates are May 27-30, 2024.
Cost-$225 for 4 fun-filled days (cost for picture, shirt, camp store items-not included).
Camp deposit of $75 due by April 1, 2024. Final balances due May 1, 2024.
4-H Members will get to choose from fun & educational tracks (TBA). A Parent/Guardian must complete the online camp registration after the camp deposit is received in the 4-H Office.
Any youth in need of financial assistance will need to contact the 4-H office to provide necessary paperwork. Scholarships only provide the first sixty dollars ($60) of camp registration; this does not include the deposit.

4-H Summer Camp –Adult Chaperones Needed!
Parents: We MUST have 4 deep leadership (Adult Volunteer Chaperones) in each cabin. If we do not reach our Adult Chaperone numbers LaSalle campers will be split across other parish’s cabins with other adults, 4-H’ers, and Counselors they do not know.
Overnight Chaperone training takes about an hour online, requires a background check, and is good for five (5) years. Adult volunteers assist camp staff and agents with educational tracks, participate in recreation activities, supervise night activities, have fun, Eat 6 times a Day, access to hot showers, cold cabins and creeks, and let’s not forget spending time with amazing campers.

Camp Counselor Training
Teens interested in further developing there leadership skills and willing to accept the challenge that comes with working with youth in overnight and day camp situations need to complete the mandatory Camp Counselor Training.Benefits include:Traveling to new places, meeting new faces, networking with other teen from across the state, hanging out and partnering with adult volunteer and
leaders, working hard and having fun!!Interested youth must complete the training course which involves about 3 hours of online training and three hours in class training. Get a head start by completing the online course and print your certificates at “learn.lsuagcenter.com”. All users, including volunteers, will have to login using Google, Facebook, or other service. Louisiana Camp Counselor Training is located under “Courses” then select “4-H Camp Counselor Training. If prompted to enter a code, the key is LACCT.

Fourth - 6th Grade 4-H’ers, join the Jr. Leaders as we embark through nature. Create something for nature, learn to weave a bracelet for fashion and other uses. Learn to identify the key features used to age deer. Let your taste buds determine what ecosystem the water was sourced. Build a feeder or birdhouse for your backyard. Cost to attend is $10. Pre-registration is due by 3/8/24
