2024 Jr Leadership Conference

The Junior Leadership Conference (JLC) is a two-night camp at Camp Grant Walker designed specifically for high school students aged 14 and older, spanning grades 8th-12th. Executive Board members will lead sessions in four different subjects. JLC tracks are created to provide participants with activities they can apply within their high school communities. This year, there are also opportunities for all attendees to showcase their leadership experiences through round-table sessions.

DATE: Junior Leadership Conference will be held March 7 -9, 2024 THEME: This year’s theme is “Leadership in Paradise”.

Registration Fee: Registration opens January 29, 2024 and closes February 5, 2024. JLC Participant $90. Each parish is allowed to register six member for JLC. Alternates may be added and will be notified if they may attend once registration closes.

Dress code: T-shirts, jeans, school approved length shorts, and closed toe shoes. NO WIND or RUNNING SHORTS.

Track Information: Participants will need to rank their choices for JLC tracks. Each will be assigned two tracks to participate in during JLC.

Description

Aloha to Leadership

In this track, you’ll learn to embrace leadership by solving problems, seeking assistance when needed, and ultimately delivering your own beach speech. Engage in games, face challenges, and acquire the essential qualities and abilities that define leadership.

Cowabunga to Conflict

Has someone ever ruined your sandcastle? Did you feel like fighting back right away? This track will teach you to stay calm when things get tough. Join us to learn how to handle conflicts with respect and keep your cool even when things get heated.

Speech on the Beach

In this track4H’ers will dive into learning about advocacy, as well as learning how to obtain public speaking skills to help 4H’ers feel like public speaking is a nice breeze.

Surfing to Success

You might face some tough challenges on your journey to success, so jump on board and ride the waves with us as you become better professionals. We’ll teach you how to ace interviews and leave a great first impression. Join us for an awesome experience—it’s going to be a lot of fun!

JLC Activities

Parish T-Shirt Exchange

Gather T-shirts from different parishes! Bring up to three shirts for ex- change. Submit them during registration to receive a ticket for redemption. Make sure to bring sizes you would like to receive in return!

Color Wars

JLC participants will be assigned a color team that they will compete with during a series of competitive leadership games. Color information will be released once registration closes.

Each participant will be encouraged to bring and dress in as

many assigned colors to earn points for their team.

Ambassador &Board Promotion Commercials and Workshops

Considering applying for an ambassadorship or a position on the State Leadership Board this year? Participating in these roles will provide you with insights into their activities during designated “Commercial Time.” Every participant will have the chance to engage in workshops that delve into leadership experiences facilitated by these respective teams.

Round TablePresentations

Do you have an outstanding parish event or community service project that you’re eager to highlight? Whether you’re creatively inclined or have an enjoyable Junior Leader activity to share, consider submitting a 15-minute roundtable proposal for presentation during JLC to your fellow 4-H members. If your proposal is selected, you’ll be responsible for bringing all the necessary supplies for your presentation. Applications will be accepted from January 29 to February 12.
