4-H Trips, Scholarships, and Awards through Records

Record keeping is a life skill that will benefit you for years to come.

The 4-H office has its parish contest each year; then sends top records onto the State contest. Scholarships can be won on the parish or even state levels based off your records. Great award trips are also sponsored by the State office. All you have to do is keep a record of your work in 4-H. Typically records are due the first of each April to the 4-H office.

A Record Book consist of the Project Book or a Project Summary (in place of the book) and up to three (3) years of your 4-H portfolio. If you would like a specific project book other than the 4th and 5th grade project books, contact the 4-H office.

Jr. Achievement Awards - 6th Grade Achievement. Fifty dollar Awards for Traditional or Livestock/Pet Care.

7th & 8th Grade Achievement Awards 32 winners will be selected on the state level to receive the Louisiana Educational Trip.

Dairy Conference (must be 15 years of age before Jan. 1) Each parish can enter 2 portfolios to compete. Trip to National Dairy Conference in Madison, WI, to top 2 Portfolios

National 4-H Club Congress - 21 Awards are presented to 4-H’ers 14 years and older to Atlanta, GA to attend the keystone conference of your 4-H career.

Orlando Leadership Trip - 10 Youth who have previously won the Club Congress trip are chosen for the trip to Orlando, FL based on quality of project work, leadership, and citizenship records.

Camp Counselor Training

Teens interested in further developing there leadership skills and willing to accept the challenge that comes with working with youth in overnight and day camp situations need to complete the mandatory Camp Counselor Training. Benefits include: Traveling to new places, meeting new faces, networking with other teen from across the state, hanging out and partnering with adult volunteer and leaders, working hard and having fun!!Interested youth must complete the training course which involves about 3 hours of online training and three hours in class training. Get a head start by completing the online course and print your certificates at “learn.lsuagcenter.com”. All users, including volunteers, will have to login using Google, Facebook or other service. Louisiana Camp Counselor Training is located under “Courses” then select “4-H Camp Counselor Training. If prompted to enter a code, the key is LACCT.

Emerald Achievement & Golden Clover Awards

The Louisiana State 4-H Foundation recognizes 4-H youth that excel in project work and leadership. The Emerald Achievement Award and Golden Clover Award gives recognition to 4-H Club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club and in their parish.
The objective of the program is to encourage project growth, a broad program of 4-H club activities over the years and the ultimate development of outstanding citizens. The recipient of the Emerald Achievement Award and Golden Clover Award can be proud of their contribution to their club and community. A club member may only win each of these awards one time. See application at 4-H meeting or contact the office for application.

Kids Chef Workshop

Around the World: Healthy Holidays Culinary Class
December 18, 2023

‘Tis the season for a new culinary class that will bring joy and education!
Class participants will learn about food safety and improve their culinary skills through active demonstrations led by Agents Madison Willis and Jennifer Duhon.
In addition, there will be nutrition education components regarding the recipe makeups. This culinary class will focus on healthy holiday recipes from around the world.
There will be a total of 3 recipes: a snack, a main course, and a dessert. Students will have the opportunity to bring these holiday recipes to life through group teamwork efforts.
This workshop will be held on Monday, December 18 from 9:00 a.m.-Noon. Ages 9-12 . A $25 registration fee will cover the cost of educational materials, and food for the 3 recipes that will be prepared in the class and participants will take home a new spiral bound copy of the recipe book used in the class.
Class is limited to 20 participants. The deadline for registration and payment is December 11th. Please make checks payable to: LaSalle 4-H.

Livestock Updates

2024 Market and Commercial Animal Validation

The 2024 LSU Market and Commercial Animal Validation is just around the corner. All show animals must be entered in your 4-H Online account before your respected Possession Date. Market and Commercial animals are required to be entered in your 4-H Online account, DNA collected , Ear Tagged before the possession / validation date. Any animals not validated by the validation deadline will not show at the Parish, District or State Livestock Show. Cost of validation is $7.00 per head.

Market: Sheep & Goats; Commercial: Heifers, Dairy, Ewe and Does; Breeding Animals: Beef, Sheep, Goat , Dairy, & Poultry

Miniature Cattle District Show Breeding Rabbit / Meat Pen

Validation / Possession Date: November 13, 2023 Validation / Possession Date: December 5, 2024 / January 4, 2024

Any animal not validated or in possession by date stated will be ineligible to show at the 2024 LSU AgCenter Livestock Shows.

Registered Breeding Animal exhibitors will enter animal information into their 4-H Online account Before the Possession Deadline. Exhibitors will also Upload Registration Papers to the program. If papers are Pending, Contact the 4-H office for a “Registration Paper Pending Form.”

Market & Commercial Breeding Animal exhibitors will enter animal information on or before Validation/Possession Deadline into their 4-H Online account. Online animal enrollment is in ADDITION to submitting DNA samples and validation fees ($7) to the 4-H Office.

Poultry exhibitors will upload a side profile picture of their birds before Validation / Possession date in 4-H Online.

FFA Members Exhibiting at LSU Livestock Shows must create a 4-H Online account. Mark your school club as “FFA Chapter” and enter animals before possession deadlines.

*Exhibitors will not have access to enter animals in their online account after possession deadline.*

Broiler Entries-State Exhibits

Looking for a lower costing, fun and educational opportunity to experience a 4-H livestock project?Then the Broiler
Project is for you! All 4-H members who want to show broilers at the State Livestock show need to contact the 4-H office.

Payment is due with order form! Minimum order of 25 chicks. 80 cents per chick. Make checks payable: LaSalle Parish 4-H.
Orders are due to the 4-H Office before November 13, 2023. Delivery Date (tentative) January 4, 2024.

Exhibitors are limited to show one pen of pullets and/or one pen of cockerels at state.An entry consist of three (3) broiler either three pullets or three cockerels.
Tentative Show Dates: - Check in February 13, 2024; Show on February 14, 2024.

Monthly Photography Contest

Theme for November is “Colors of Fall”. Get outside and draw your attention to all things “fall”!

Remember a few of the fundamentals of photography: Rule of thirds, lighting, and composition. Turn in only 1 picture each month.

Write name, grade, and club on the back of a 4X6 photo and turn in to your 4-H Agent BEFORE the Last Monday of the Month! Photos may also be attached & emailed to: scecil@agcenter.lsu.edu

Seed of the Month Club

LaSalle Parish 4-H is starting a Seed of the Month Club and accepting the first 50 members who would like to participate. Each month members will receive a packet of seeds or planting material with instructions on planting, watering, growing, and harvesting.

Project activity guides will also accompany the seeds that include recipes, and a wide variety of gardening education. To register, please contact the 4-H office at 992-2205 or email scecil@agctr.lsu.edu with name and mailing address. No cost to join!

Shooting Sports T-Shirt Design Contest

Get ready to submit your ideals for this year’s parish shooting sports
t-shirt design!

It’s that time of year again to submit T-Shirt design for 2023-24. Please send your design to scecil@agcenter.lsu.edu or drop off at the 4-H Office before January 12, 2024

Be sure to include a back of shirt and a front left chest design. After all your ideals have been submitted, we will send an email to shooting sports members for everyone to vote. Design needs to include our three shooting disciplines offered: Shotgun, Rifle, and Archery.

State 4-H Fashion Camp

Fashion & Beyond Tour”.... January 9 - or - January 17

Get ready to explore the world of fashion in a fun and friendly atmosphere for 5th - 12th grade 4-H’ers.

Join the 4-H members of the State Fashion Board at one of their venues as they travel the state bringing fashion to your fingertips.
Stops on the Fashion Tour will include January 9 at the 4-H Mini Farm Building on LSU Campus and January 17 at the River of Life Church in Winnsboro. At both locations, activities begin at 10:00 am and end at 3:00 pm. Tickets for the Tour are $25 per person. Space in limited to 50 members at each venue. Participants will need to supply a sack lunch and one adult medium sided t-shirt.

At the fashion tour stop, you will get a closer look at all aspects of the fashion world from newspaper runways, color wheels, upcycling, fibers, basic sewing fundamentals and more through 10 multiple sessions and hands on activities.

Registration for the Fashion and Beyond Tour begins December 1, 2023 till January 5, 2024. The 4-H Office will begin your registration via your 4-H Online account. Parents will complete registration and mail registration fees (Check) to address listed upon completion.

State 4-H Shooting Sports Camp

December 8-10, 2023

Ready to hone your outdoor skills? Current 4-H Shooting Sports members 9-13 years old can attend the 4-H Shooting Sports Camp at Camp Grant Walker on December 8-10, 2023. Registration will occur through the 4H Online system.

Campers will select and participate in one of several different disciplines. (Archery, Shotgun, or .22 Rifle or Air Rifle/Air Pistol/ BB.)

Camp includes two nights lodging, five meals, snacks, drinks, targets, and t-shirt. Shooters provide their own ammo/arrows / bows and other protective equipment.
Registration fee is $120 per youth. Parents may also attend. Must be overnight chaperoned trained and pay registration. Registration and Payment Deadline is November 20. Payment options include online, check, or money order sent to state office. Level 1 and Level 2 instructors will provide instruction and training for youth to hone their skills. Watch your 4H Online account under your events tab to register.

STEM Workshop

January 22, 2024

Science, Engineering and Technology Workshop for 4-H youth in 5th - 7th grades. This hands-on workshop is ready to go with new and challenging activities that will help you dive deeper into Science, Engineering , Technology, and even a little Math.

Register now for this exciting workshop that will take place on Monday, January 22, 2024. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last tentatively until noon in the downstairs 4-H meeting room below courthouse. Workshop limited to the first 20 members in 5 -7 grade. Registration for the event is $10.Deadline to register is 1/12/24. Workshop registration flyer is available to members at the club meeting or visit our Facebook page at LaSalle Parish 4-H!
