4-H Cinema Night-December 1, 2018
Ready for some “reel” fun filled night with the LaSalle Parish 4-H Jr. Leaders? The 4-H movie night is slated for Saturday, December 1 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the 4-H downstairs meeting room of the courthouse.
Admission is $10 or $5 with a donation of coloring book and box of crayons for youth at St. Jude’s.
The popcorn starts popping at 6:00 pm!You don’t want to miss the big screen.

4-H Water Rocket Workshop - Pre-register before November 13, 2018

Science, Engineering and Technology Clubs or SET is a way for 4-H’ers to explore the mathematics and physics of the world around them and apply what you have been learning in math and science class in a fun and exciting way. Members will need to supply three (3) empty 2-Liter Coke bottles for the workshop.

Workshop is slated for Tuesday, November 20, 2018.We will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last tentatively till 2:00 p.m. at the Jena Fair Barn (Community Center). Act fast, this will be limited to the first 20 members in 4 -7 grades.
Registration for the event is $10. Lunch will be provided. Deadline to register is November 13.

4-H Cheese'n Workshop
Cheesy goodness is not always gold. Sometimes it’s white, as is Mozzarella! Discover the art of mozzarella cheese making Tuesday, January 29, 2019. We heat up the kitchen at 5:00 pm. Also to find out what makes pizza dough stretchy, 4-H’ers will learn about different types of flour and their uses based on protein levels to create the perfect dough! Don’t forget to wear your cheese’ N smiles! Registration is due by January 15.

Winter Cookery Contest
Enjoyed a dish over the holidays that you would love to enter into competition? If so, enter your special recipe in the Winter Cookery Contest on January 22. Check-In 5:00 p.m. Judging at 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is requested by 1/8/19. Contest will be held in the Extension Meeting Room (23) at the Courthouse.

1st, 2nd, & 3rd places will be given for each division and category. Overall dishes will receive $25. Four-H’ers may enter only one dish per division. Dishes cannot be split between divisions.

Contestants will display their dishes on table to be judged, along with recipe. Do not put your name on recipe. Remember: prepare whole recipe and bring only half of the dish to exhibit in the contest. Leave other half at home to enjoy with your family! All final garnishes for the dish should be done by contestant. Dishes will be chilled and brought to the contest cold and on ice.

Chicken Cookery -Rules: The dish must use at least one pound of chicken. All chicken should be cooked through and juices run clear.
Sugar Cookery- Rules: Dish must contain at least 1 cup of sugar.
Sweet Potato Cookery-
Rules: Dish must contain at least one cup fresh or canned sweet potatoes.

4-H Challenge Camp - “You’ve Got a Friend in Me!”

You did not read that…. You sang it didn’t you??? That’s right 4-H Challenge Camp 2019 is Disney Themed!
This year’s 4-H Challenge Camp is slated for February 22-24, 2019.
Challenge Camp is geared for 4-H members in the 7th and 8th grades who have previously not attended. The camp is designed for youth to develop and build Leadership, Communication and Teamwork Skills. This year the weekend adventure camp will be held at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock. Registration for Challenge Camp is $70 which includes meals & lodging (shirt cost is extra).

So if you're ready to accept the challenge of this fun-filled educational and challenging weekend, be sure to sign-up. Positions are filled on a first-come-first-served basis.Deadline: January 7, 2019.
Flyers will be available at club meetings and in the 4-H Office.

Emerald Achievement & Golden Clover Awards - Due January 28, 2019

The Louisiana State 4-H Foundation recognizes 4-H youth that excel in project work and leadership.The Emerald Achievement Award and Golden Clover Award gives recognition to 4-H Club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club and in their parish.

The objective of the program is to encourage project growth, a broad program of 4-H club activities over the years and the ultimate development of outstanding citizens.The recipient of the Emerald Achievement Award and Golden Clover Award can be proud of their contribution to their club and community.A club member may only win each of these awards one time. See application at 4-H meeting or contact the office for application scorecard.

2019 State 4-H Fashion Camp - “4-H Fashion Safari” January 25-27, 2019

Get ready to explore the world of fashion in a fun and friendly atmosphere!
The Fashion Board chose this theme to reflect their personal excitement about fashion and the attitude that the campers will adopt as they travel through the experiences at camp. In addition to basic sewing fundamentals, a few of the educational activities for campers include: a sewing caddy, tote bag, pajama shorts, and a community service project plus more. You will return home with completed projects and ideas to host a fashion workshop of your own. The camp is set for January 25-27, 2019 at 4-H Camp Grant Walker.

Please note space is limited. Each parish has the opportunity to send two campers. Fashion Camp is open for
4-H’ers age 10-13 years old. Need to have a little knowledge of sewing.Don’t wait if you want to attend; in the past, part of the waiting list has been accepted. Camp registration if arriving Friday night is $130 or Saturday morning is $110 for campers.
This includes all lodging, meals, and tee shirt. Supply list of materials is available at the 4-H Office.

An Overnight Chaperone Volunteer must attend with the delegation from LaSalle Parish.Cost for volunteer is $80.Transportation is on your own.Contact the 4-H Office for Application, Health Form, and Code of Conduct.
Deadline is November 27, 2018, yet don’t wait if you want to attend!

Monthly 4-H Photography Contest

Theme for December is “Food”. Examples include images producing attractive photos of food such as advertising,
packaging, menus, and cookbooks. Turn in only 1 picture each month.

Write category, name, grade, and club on the back of a 4X6 photo and turn in to your 4-H leader or 4-H Agent by the club meeting at your school each month. Photos may also be attached & emailed to:

2019 Market and Commercial Animal Validation

The 2019 LSU Market and Commercial Animal Validation is just around the corner.All animals except breeding or registered are required to be validated through this process.A the time of validation, all animals will have hair samples pulled and a tag placed in that animals ear.Any animals not validated by the validation deadline will not show at the Parish, District or State Livestock Show.Cost of validation is $5.00 per head.

LSU AgCenter Quality Assurance and Ethics Certification program

Mandatory quality assurance and ethic certification (QAEC) program is being implemented for the 2019 livestock shows.New exhibitors must complete the general tutorial and a tutorial for each specie(s) they plan to exhibit. On completion of this tutorial you will be allowed to print an affidavit showing you have completed the training. The affidavit must be signed by exhibitor and a copy must be turned in at the time of entry.the training and print the certificate at

LaSalle 4-H Shooting Sports

It’s that time of year again to submit T-Shirt design for 2018-2019. Please send your design to or drop off at the 4-H Office before January 7, 2019. Be sure to include a back of shirt and a front left chest design. After all your ideals have been submitted, we will send an email to shooting sports members for everyone to vote.
