Current responsibilities (2002-): structural and household arthropods, emphasis on the Formosan subterranean termite; conducting area-wide integrated pest management program-French Quarter Program, Lois Caffey Termite Training Center, evaluating the state’s tree treating program, Governor’s task force, Louisiana Formosan subterranean termite scientific committee, national Formosan subterranean termite task force, Louisiana Formosan subterranean termite task force, education programs, and demonstrations on integrated pest management of termites.

1995-2002--Commodities included rice, sweet potatoes, vegetables, forest, Christmas trees, small fruits, fruit trees, citrus, structures and household. Cooperative work on EILs, sampling plan, and predictive model for rice water weevil, insecticide field trials for rice insects and sweet potato insects, and testing wood treatments against termites.


Research:

1994-1995– Supervised cotton research project from July through January while project leader was on sabbatical.

1988-1995– Integrated pest management of arthropods attacking cotton, insect injury-cotton yield relationships incorporating physiological age of cotton and multiple pests, interactions of arthropods and EILs on genetically engineered cotton, and simulation models for IPM. Farming systems and LISA including arthropods of cotton, sorghum, corn, and soybeans.

1987-1988– Integrated pest management of Mexican rice borer on sugarcane, rice, sorghum, corn, forages, and other grasses.

1986-1987– Insecticide resistance management of aphids attacking pecan.

1985-1986– Integrated pest management of arthropods attacking pecan. Host range of pecan weevil on hickory and related nut trees.

1984-1985– Integrated pest management of ticks; modeling tick development and survival.

1982-1984– Integrated pest management of arthropods attacking pecans.

1981-1982– Bait-toxicant systems for the screwworm.

1974-1981– Integrated pest management of arthropods attacking pecans.

Statewide education programs on integrated pest management (IPM) of structural and household insects. Emphasis on termites and the Formosan subterranean termite. Programs include the French Quarter Program of Operation Full Stop; evaluation of Louisiana’s tree treating program for termites; member of scientific advisory committees for the Governor’s Task Force on the Formosan subterranean termite; demonstrations on wood treatments, conducive conditions, and IPM of termites; investigations on the distribution of the Formosan subterranean termite in Louisiana; educational programs providing unbiased information to county agents, legislators, governmental agencies, industry, and the public; LSU AgCenter’s representative at the Lois Caffey Termite Training Center; presentations to master gardeners; termite webpage; publications; exhibits; insect identification; media, and answering phone calls.
