We are ready to present details about 4-H Summer Camp 2022! The theme this year is “A 100 Years. A Million Memories.” It has been a while since 4-H members were able to attend summer camp, so we are excited to finally come back! Some things have changed, but the process has mostly stayed the same. Camp will be from June 13th – June 16th. Campers will enjoy recreational activities such as swimming, dancing, etc. as well as participate in one of 6 educational tracks: Science, Engineering, and Technology; Outdoor Adventures; Hunter Safety; Louisiana Wetlands; Food and Fitness; and Water Safety. For registration forms, please visit our website: https://bit.ly/3NvP5en. As mentioned last newsletter, parents/guardians must enroll their member in 4-H Online in order to attend. To enroll in 4-H online, visit this page: https://lsuagcenter.com/4hconnect.
On April 2 and April 3, 4-H agents had a booth over at the New Orleans Spring Garden Show. It has been many years since the Spring Garden Show was held in New Orleans, so we were very honored to be able to participate! Agents from Jefferson Parish and Orleans Parish helped run the booth. Activities included face painting, ring toss, activity sheets and more! We wanted to thank everyone who came to visit our tent and also thank the volunteers who came to make this a successful event. We hope to see you all next year!
If you are a high school student and are looking for a fun volunteer service, then this is the oppurtunity for you! This year’s 4-H Summer Camp will be held on on June 13th to the 16th and we are looking for Junior camp counselors to help us out. There are only two openings for Junior camp counselor this year, 1 male and 1 female. This is a great way to gain experience for your college or job application! Teens will have to complete 6 hours of training. Registration for these positions open next month, but we wanted to get the word out early! Email dhowell@agcenter.lsu.edu for more information.
The Jefferson Volunteers for Family and Community, JVFC, has made massive contributions to the Jefferson Parish 4-H foundation last month. JVFC made three donations for a total of $1,400! Through their donations, we were able to help provide transportation to our AgMagic on the River Event, pay most of our transportation fees for this year’s 4-H Summer Camp and to provide scholarships for 4-H Summer Camp registration. With the continued support of JVFC, Jefferson Parish 4-H is able to provide programming, events, and competitions to the youth of Jefferson Parish. Thank you so much!
We want to give a shout-out to our newest 4-H club in Jefferson Parish! Club leader Ms. Gilda Grana started a 4-H club at J. C. Ellis because she wanted to provide leadership experience to the students. The members have already had 5 club meetings and held elections. Jefferson Parish 4-H Agent Mr. Dillon Howell was very impressed with the students at J. C. Ellis. Here is what he had to say: “The students at J. C. Ellis are very observant and quick to learn. They are doing a wonderful job at their weekly 4-H meeting.” We hope to see you at our future events and competitions!
On March 26th, Jefferson Parish 4-H conducted an Advisory Committee meeting to discuss issues that are facing youth and ways we can improve our program. Among the atendees were teachers, 4-H members, school administration, and community partners. The day consisted of a presentation from 4-H Agent Heather Egger about the organization, history and goals of the 4-H program. 4-H Agent Heather Egger and 4-H Agent Dillon Howell then led a discussion on the following topics:
The results of the discussion has helped us decide programming for next year. Our programming for next year will focus on Mental Health, Environmental Sciences, Finances and more. If you would like to know more or would like to share your opinion, please contact us with the contact info shared below. We want to thank all the people who attended the meeting! Your opinions and experiences were very much appreciated.
