AgMagicFamilyDayjpg

Mark your calendars and join us at AgMagic on the River for this one-of-a-kind event at Docville Farm 5124 East St. Bernard Highway, Violet, LA. Docville Farm will be transformed this spring to show "AgMagic", which will take children and adults through a journey of Louisiana agriculture and economically beneficial commodities they use every day. The AgMagic on the River experience will be an interactive, visually stimulating environment that will link food and fiber products to the forests, field crops and livestock produced by Louisiana farmers, ranchers and forest landowners. This event will be open for families to attend on March 19, 2022. For more information, visit our website: https://bit.ly/3u9M3Ft

Marsh Maneuvers is a 4-H camp for high schoolers that offers hands-on learning about Louisiana’s coast! Some of the unique experiences include taking a tour of the marsh in an airboat, helping restore wetlands by planting marsh grass, going crabbing, and touring the Tabasco Factory and Jungle Gardens at Avery Island. Members of Jefferson Parish would be able to participate July 18-22 or July 25-29 and the cost will be $150. There are a limited number of seats, so those who are interested need to fill out an application at http://lsuagcenter.com/MMApplication. Only a few participants will be accepted, so do your best!

We are updating how we do registrations for the 2022-2023 year. Before, members would fill out a paper form and submit it to their parish office. Now families, including members and volunteers, will register online at: http://bit.ly/LA4HOnline. This new system will make it easier for families to sign up for events/camp! We are still making adjustments to this system, so please register your family as early as you can. Instructions for signing up can be found here: https://bit.ly/34UvZwK. A Youtube video guide can be watched here: https://youtu.be/tQVzNHO6Hsk. Members and volunteers must be enrolled in 4-H Online if they are to participate in 4-H summer camp. Any questions can be directed to Dillon Howell at dhowell@agcenter.lsu.edu.

4-H Member Highlight: Jac Gross

On February 15, 2022, Jefferson Parish 4-H member Jac Gross competed in the LA State level 4-H Commodity Ambassador Contest. Her presentation, “Eggs… How Interesting!” scored first place in her division! The topics in Jac’s demonstration included: nutrtional value of eggs, production and transportation of eggs in Louisiana, and facts about hens. She also prepared an 8-layered salad as part of the demonstration! Jac was coached by the Parish Chair Beth Gambel who had this to say about the young 4-H member: “Jac is a lovely young lady who is willing to go the extra mile to be a great 4-H member. She is willing to study hard, accepts new ideas, and enjoys learning. She demonstrated these skills as she presented a demonstration to judges she had never met! Jac, be proud of your accomplishments! All of Jefferson 4-H congratulates you!”
