The 83rd Northeast Louisiana District Livestock Show took place on February 1st - 4th. This event provides opportunities for Northeast Region 4-H and FFA members to compete in a variety of livestock categories including beef, lamb, goat, rabbit, poultry, swine, and dairy. The 4-H livestock program is a channel in which students can learn valuable life skills such as responsibility, management, and discipline. Ashley Powell, Northeast Region 4-H Coordinator, explains, "Our livestock exhibitors learn throughout their livestock projects because they're responsible for those animals. We see that as they come through the livestock shows, they get more confident, and they also learn leadership skills."

This annual event also creates a sense of community between participants that carries over year after year. "You'll see them as they get older," Ashley Powell points out, "and they've been through a couple of show seasons. They take the time with those new exhibitors that are coming in. When they see them struggling, they'll stop and give them some pointers." This comradery is rooted in the tradition of the NELA District Livestock Show and creates a supportive atmosphere in which the exhibitors can learn to improve their livestock practice and display their showmanship.

The NELA District Livestock Show is also a collaborative effort between many members of the community. Kylie Miller, LSU AgCenter ANR Extension Agent states, "I look forward to this event every year. It's one of my favorite things to do as an agent...thank ya'll for coming out and helping us because we can't do it without all the volunteers." We appreciate all of the sponsors, exhibitors, judges, helpers, parents, and LSU AgCenter employees who volunteer their time for this event each year! The NELA District Livestock Show would not be possible without their generosity.
