The St. Charles Parish 4-H Shooting Sports Program was established to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes so that they may become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society through a disciplined 4-H youth development program. The program is designed to do the following:

• Assist youth to learn safe and responsible use of shooting equipment
• Promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior
• Enhance self-confidence, self-concept, decision-making, character, personal development, responsibility, problem-solving, and sportsmanship
• Develop leadership and citizenship within 4-H parameters for youth and adults
• Expand 4-H membership and involve more volunteer adult leaders
• Strengthen families through participation in life-long recreational activities
• Create an appreciation and understanding of natural resources
• Encourage participation in natural resources and related natural science programs by exposing participants to content through hunting and related activities
• Develop an understanding of the principles of wildlife management
• Complement and enhance the impact of existing safety, shooting, and hunter educational programs
• Build awareness of related career opportunities

Members of the St. Charles Parish 4-H Shooting Sports Club have the opportunity to participate in various trainings, practices, and competitions. Members are trained by 4-H volunteers who have been certified as 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors. 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors educate members on firearm safety and sportsmanship.

Youth (10 years old by January 1 through 12^th grade) either residing or attending school in St. Charles Parish are invited to become members of the St. Charles Parish 4-H Shooting Sports Program. In addition to attending regular practices, members are invited to participate in 4-H Shooting Sports competitions.

The registration deadline for the 2025-2026 school year is: November 19, 2025

To become a member of the St. Charles Parish 4-H Shooting Sports program, the following must be submitted to the St. Charles Parish LSU AgCenter Office by the registration deadline:

• 4-H Online Enrollment (through 4-H Online at https://v2.4honline.com or paper form)
• Registration Form
• Parental Permission Form
• Participation Agreement Form
• Signed Range Waiver (1 per person who will be attending practices, including 4-H members and parents/guardians)
• $20 club dues (Please make checks payable to St. Charles 4-H)
• Copy of Hunter’s Certification Card (if 4-H’er has already completed the course)
• Completed Health Form (Contact your 4-H Agent to receive via email)
