We are always proud to call 4-H the nation’s largest youth development organization, and even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are committed to continuing to provide our youth and families with the same great program. Safety is always our #1 concern with 4-H, and to continue to keep our 4-H members, families, and volunteers safe, our 4-H program may look a little different this year.
In following LSU AgCenter, Louisiana 4-H, St. Charles Parish, and CDC guidelines, we are committed to providing a safe, fun, and educational 4-H program this year. Many club meetings, contests, and programs have converted to virtual formats. As we continue to monitor the pandemic situation and consider the safety of all those involved in our 4-H program, please read the newsletters carefully for changes.

All 4-H members are highly encouraged this year to request access to our St. Charles Parish 4-H General Information Google Classroom and/or Microsoft Teams Channel. Once members are granted access to these formats, they will be provided with additional 4-H updates, resources, and opportunities.
National 4-H Week is October 4-10, 2020. During National 4-H Week, there will be trivia and photo challenges on our St. Charles Parish 4-H Facebook page. Stay tuned for different challenges related to the themes each day:
Throughout this year 4th – 12th grade 4-H members are encouraged to complete a 4-H Portfolio, which focuses on record-keeping skills and is helpful when completing award, scholarship, and future job applications. Prizes or opportunities will be awarded to top members who complete the 4-H Portfolio. In addition to completing your 4-H Story and the other sections of the 4-H Portfolio, read the newsletter for opportunities to list in your 4-H Portfolio this year. This year the 4-H Program will feature a “Getting to Know St. Charles Parish” Field Study, which includes virtual tours of various aspects of St. Charles Parish. Videos will be posted on the St. Charles Parish General Information Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams Channel. For each tour you view, there will be a quiz that you can take for a chance to win prizes. Enjoy learning more about our beautiful community!

All St. Charles Parish students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade are invited to join the 4-H Cloverbud Community Club. This year we will be offering 4-H Cloverbud virtual activities each month. There will be no fee to join this club this year. Please contact the 4-H Agent Kali Zammit at kzammit@agcenter.lsu.edu to register and receive access to monthly activities.
The 4-H CHEF (Cooking, Healthy Eating, and Fitness) Club is for any St. Charles Parish student in 4th – 6th grade. This year each registered 4-H CHEF Club Member will receive a bag of cooking supplies, utensils, and recipes to use for the year. Members will be expected to purchase their own ingredients to make at-home meals while following along videos of cooking demonstrations and fitness activities. Members who submit photos or videos of finished dishes and complete the end of the year evaluation will receive an additional award at the end of the year! The St. Charles Parish 4-H Shooting Sports Club is open to all students at least 10 years old by January 1, 2020. Members must complete their Hunter’s Education certification in order to participate in 4-H Shooting Sports practices. All members, families, and instructors will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing until further notice. Masks may only be taken off when at the firing line after instructed to do so. Members will be required to attend a safety training to learn club rules, including new safety precautions due to COVID-19. The 4-H Jr. Leader Club is for any student in St. Charles Parish who is in 7th – 12th grade. This club focuses on leadership development through teambuilding and leadership activities, service projects, and much more! This club offers great opportunities to build leadership skills while meeting new friends in St. Charles Parish and beyond. This year the cost to join the 4-H Jr. Leader Club is $20, which includes the cost of the parish 4-H T-shirt. Members will meet at least once a month through a virtual format until further notice. The St. Charles Parish 4-H Fashion Club is for any student in St. Charles Parish who is in 4th – 12th grade. This year we are unable to provide face-to-face instruction at this time and will have to delay 4-H Fashion Club activities until further notice. However, new and former members may request a 4-H Fashion Project Book and a supplemental 4-H Fashion Club Activity Packet to work independently. event this year. Read about each of the activities that will be held during the
week of October 19-23, 2020.
Join us for video presentations featuring wetland animals and adventures each day. Videos will be posted daily on our St. Charles Parish 4-H Facebook Page and in our St. Charles Parish 4-H General Information Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams Channel.

All St. Charles Parish 4-H members (K-12th grade) are encouraged to submit a picture of your decorated pumpkin. Contest rules are:
The pumpkin must be decorated by the 4-H member. The pumpkin may be real or fake. No store bought decorated pumpkins. Pumpkin must not be larger than 8” x 11”. 1 entry per person.
Take a picture of your pumpkin with a paper near the pumpkin that says “4-H Wetland Week 2020.” Submit the photo along with required information using this 4-H Wetland Weekend: Pumpkin Contest Form. Entries are due on October 19, 2020.
Ribbons will be awarded to all participants. A door prize winner will be selected at random from all completed entries.

Enjoy a Family Fun Night by participating in some fun SET (Science, Engineering, and Technology) activities presented by two of our St. Charles Parish 4-H members who are also members of the Louisiana 4-H SET Board. The SET Activities will be provided in a video format and uploaded to our St. Charles Parish 4-H Facebook Page as well as our St. Charles Parish 4-H General Information Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams Channel. Complete the 4-H Wetland Week: SET Workshop Quiz by October 25, 2020 for a chance to win a door prize.
Wednesday, October 21, 2020 (Supply Drop Off from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.)
Participate in one or both service projects this month! To support the schools and students that suffered during the hurricanes, 4-H is hosting a 4-H School Supply Drive during 4-H Wetland Week (October 19-23, 2020). There are two options for supply drop off: (a) Wednesday Evening Drop-off or (b) Scheduled Appointments. Supplies may also be dropped off on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Parish LSU AgCenter Office located at 1313 Paul Maillard Road, Suite E. On Wednesday evening, a box will be outside of the door labeled “4-H School Supply Drive.” Simply place your donated items in the box during that designated time. Some examples of school supplies to be donated include but are not limited to notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, markers, and erasers. If you are unable to drop off supplies during this time, please contact the 4-H Office at 985-785-4473 to schedule an appointment to drop off items during the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. during this week. To help protect our wetlands and environment, we are also hosting a 4-H Trash Bash during 4-H Wetland Week. Throughout the week of October 19-23, 2020, take time to clean up your environment by picking up trash. Take a picture of you picking up trash and/or donating school supplies and complete the 4-H Wetland Week: Service Project Form by October 25, 2020 for a chance to win a door prize for participating.

Join us for a Live Virtual Meeting to learn more about how to be successful in your role as a 4-H club officer or 4-H member. The meeting will be conducted through Microsoft Teams. If you are unable to attend the Live Virtual Meeting, a video recording will be uploaded to the St. Charles Parish 4-H General Information Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams Channel. Dress in your favorite costume or swamp gear for a chance to win a prize. Submit a picture of you wearing your favorite costume by completing the 4-H Wetland Week: Costume Contest Form by 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020 to be eligible for the costume contest. All costumes must be appropriate for all 4-H audiences.
Each month 4-H’ers will be provided with a list of upcoming opportunities on a parish, regional, state, and/or national level. Contact the 4-H Agent or visit the St. Charles Parish LSU AgCenter Website under “4-H Youth Development” for all rules, applications, and more information.
Current graduating senior 4-H members may apply to receive a 4-H honor cord to wear for graduation and a 4-H senior jacket to wear to show off their 4-H accomplishments. Jackets will be awarded in the winter. 4-H Honor Cords will be awarded in spring. There are two separate applications for these awards. Application deadline: November 13, 2020
This trip is held on January 22-24, 2020 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, La. Selected campers will learn basic sewing skills and enjoy sewing various projects. Refunds available if trip is cancelled. Application deadline: November 13, 2020
