Extension Associate (4-H STEM Specialist) - East Baton Rouge Parish - R00113589

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through 8/31/2027. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

Work Location: Louisiana 4-H, LSU AgCenter Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Description: Louisiana 4-H is seeking a motivated and innovative STEM Specialist to support statewide efforts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Under the direction of the 4-H STEM Coordinator, the STEM Specialist will assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating engaging, hands-on STEM programs and events for Louisiana youth.

  • Program Implementation: Coordinate and deliver educational programming in STEM fields with a primary focus on unmanned aerial systems and SeaPerch programs, including curriculum delivery, training, and event management.
  • Youth Engagement: Facilitate engaging, hands-on learning experiences for 4-H youth across Louisiana that promote problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and guidance of the Louisiana 4-H STEM Board, helping youth develop leadership and project management skills.
  • Support the organization and execution of regional and state STEM events, competitions, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with schools, volunteers, extension agents, community organizations, and industry partners to expand access to STEM learning opportunities.
  • Assist in creating and adapting curricula, lesson plans, and teaching materials that align with Louisiana 4-H priorities and youth development goals.
  • Track program participation, outcomes, and impacts for reporting and evaluation purposes.
  • Provide training and technical support to extension agents, volunteers, and educators implementing STEM programming in local communities.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the 4-H STEM Coordinator or Louisiana 4-H leadership team.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field, education, youth development, or a closely related discipline. Four years of related work experience will be considered equivalent.
  • Experience in STEM instruction, youth programming, or 4-H/Extension work.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel statewide and work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with drones, robotics, or aquatic engineering programs.
  • Familiarity with Louisiana 4-H or Cooperative Extension systems.
  • Skills in curriculum development, volunteer management, and event planning.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
