Work Location: Audubon Sugar Institute, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, St. Gabriel, Louisiana. Audubon Sugar Institute has been a part of the Louisiana State University System for over 75 years. Position Description:
60% -The incumbent will be responsible for analyses of sugar samples from industrial and/or academic collaborators as part of the Audubon Laboratory Service. He/she will also be responsible for quantitative and quality control of all analytical work and ensure that all equipment is properly maintained that safety requirements are observed, and that supplies and laboratory prerequisites are properly managed to achieve goals. The incumbent will also be expected to ensure that all work is accurate and completed in a timely manner, and the results are reported in the appropriate written format.
40% - The incumbent will be responsible for undertaking research on research projects for sugarcane factories and refineries. The candidate may be required to train industrial personnel in the proper use of analytical equipment and laboratory procedures as well as collection of samples from factories and/or refineries. The candidate could be asked to make a written and/or poster presentation for select projects that will be communicated at the Factory Operations Seminar, American Sugar Cane Technologists meetings or select sugar conferences.
Qualification Requirements: A Baccalaureate degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry or closely related field plus experience in chemical research or analyses. Experience with advanced analytical methods used in sugar processing research. Proficiency with instruments such as gas and liquid chromatography is preferable.
