Assistant Professor - Research - East Baton Rouge Parish - R00110830

Work Location: School of Renewable Natural Resources, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Position Description: This is a non-tenure track position (100% research). This position focuses on maintaining, and further developing a research program focused on the ecology of submerged aquatic vegetation, specifically seagrass resources, carbon stocks, and restoration initiatives. The Assistant Research Professor will lead and participate in key research studies across geographically diverse sites, including Guam and other Pacific Islands, as well as various locations within the continental United States. Job duties entail Research Leadership: Design, execute, and manage independent and collaborative research projects related to seagrass ecology, ecosystem services (e.g., carbon sequestration), and restoration effectiveness; work to develop continued funding, and serve as PI and co-PI on new projects. Data Analysis and Interpretation: Apply advanced spatial and statistical analysis techniques using software platforms such as R, GIS, and Python to organize, analyze, and interpret complex ecological datasets. Scientific Dissemination: Develop and write peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and proposals to secure external funding. Fieldwork and Data Collection: Conduct field research in coastal ecosystems, which may involve working in challenging conditions (hot and wet environments).

Qualification Requirements: Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) experience with spatial and statistical analyses including use of R, GIS, python or similar programs, (2) proven ability to organize, analyze and interpret ecological data, (3) interest and ability to write scientific manuscripts, (4) interest and ability to identify and develop ecological research questions, (5) ability to work in the field in hot and wet environments, (5) ability to work independently, create work plans, trouble shoot technical issues, meet deadlines and collaborate with a diversity of individuals, and (6) experience and knowledge of coastal and seagrass ecology.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
