Assistant/Associate Professor (Consumer Horticulture Specialist) - East Baton Rouge Parish - R00100306

Work Location: This is an Assistant or Associate Professor tenure-track position in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA. The position responsibilities are 75% extension, 15% teaching, and 10% research.

Position Description: The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized extension, teaching, and research program in horticulture. Extension efforts should address issues of importance regarding the cultivation of plants (ornamentals, flowers, fruits, and vegetables) in gardens and landscapes for the benefit of individuals, communities and the environment. This position will require the development of written, audio, and video extension materials for consumers; development and management of consumer horticulture materials for various social media platforms; and the development of materials and organized events for training and assisting statewide extension personnel. The candidate should possess the interpersonal skills that allow him/her to effectively educate the public through multiple media platforms. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with parish extension agents and agricultural communication personnel and work cooperatively across allied disciplines. The teaching responsibilities with this position include teaching one undergraduate-level floriculture or fruit crops course and one graduate-level horticulture physiology course annually. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining extramural funding to support their extension and research program. Extension activities and applied research results are expected to be published in peer-reviewed journals and trade publications as well as presented at state, regional, and national meetings.

Qualification Requirements: Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in horticulture or a closely related discipline. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. Experience in media interviews or segments, popular press and magazine articles, and generation of extramural funding is desirable.
