Work Location: Knapp Hall, LSU Campus, Baton Rouge, LA.
Position Description: Specialist position with state-wide responsibilities in the LSU AgCenter’s Information Technology Infrastructure and Unified Communications team that include implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and technical support for the LSU AgCenter’s enterprise server infrastructure, data backup systems, and communication systems.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain enterprise servers
- Continuously monitor server performance, availability, and security
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues promptly to minimize downtime
- Regularly apply patches and updates to operating systems and applications to maintain security and functionality
- Maintain detailed documentation of server configurations, procedures, and changes
- Update current and create new UC documentation, knowledge base articles, wiring diagrams, and other relevant materials
- Assess and plan for future server capacity needs based on organizational growth and usage trends such as containers
- Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in case of server failures.
- Design and implement backup strategies to ensure data integrity and availability
- Perform regular backups of critical data and systems, ensuring backups are completed successfully
- Monitor backup processes to detect and resolve any issues promptly
- Test and perform data restoration procedures to verify backup integrity and recoverability
- Establish metrics for Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR)
- Manage backup storage resources, including disk arrays, cloud storage solutions, etc.
- Ensure backup processes comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Maintain detailed records of backup schedules, procedures, and restoration activities
- Optimize backup processes to minimize impact on system performance and maximize efficiency
- Communicate with vendors to request quotes, order equipment, request return authorizations, and handle other vendor-related tasks
- Provide in-person and remote support for Infrastructure and UC equipment, tools, and services for the LSU AgCenter and its constituents
- Troubleshoot issues with voice, video, networking equipment, computer hardware, and software
- Research, manage, monitor, and support enterprise Infrastructure and UC equipment, tools, and services
- Assist with billing for VoIP and cellular accounts across the organization
- Install Infrastructure and UC equipment, software, and related components
- Monitor and manage software and hardware updates for UC devices
- Collaborate on projects with other LSU AgCenter IT units, LSU System institutions, and other stakeholders
- Compile and monitor telecom, cellular, voice, and video metrics to ensure optimal performance and identify areas for improvement
- Create, monitor, and respond to work orders, support cases, and other service requests
- Work toward continuing education and/or certifications related to voice, video, and information technology infrastructure to stay current with industry trends and best practices
Minimum Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree (required) with 5 years of related experience or a master’s degree with 2 years of related experience
- Experience in cloud-based conferencing administration (Teams, Zoom, etc.)
- Experience with enterprise backup and recovery tools such as Veeam, Rubrik, etc.
- Experience with providing support for Microsoft Office products, Windows Operating System, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Teams
- Experience using remote PC assistance tools such as BeyondTrust
- Candidate must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl as well as lift and handle 30 lbs.
- Applicants must have a smartphone with voice and data services and have or be able to obtain a valid Louisiana driver's license
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field
- Master’s degree is preferred
- Proficiency in server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
- Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Experience managing VoIP infrastructure using Teams Admin Center to configure call queues, auto attendants, phone number porting, etc.
- Experience in providing customer service and support via in-person, phone, and remote tools
- Hands-on experience installing microphones, cameras, VoIP phones, streaming equipment, etc.
- Experience training end-users in the use of VoIP hardware, software, etc.
- Knowledge of network switches, QoS, PoE, VLAN, Audio/Video Codecs
- Experience creating knowledge base articles and user guides
