Research Associate Specialist - East Baton Rouge Parish - R00095987

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position, Continuation of appointment is dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

Work Location: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU Ag Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Description: The Research Associate will help with research designed to determine how hydrological restoration of former bottomland hardwood forests should be evaluated. Routine duties will include plot establishment, data collection, and assistance with preparing reports. The Research Associate will focus on monitoring variables focused on groundwater quality and dynamics, but also will assist monitoring vegetation and wildlife. The Research Assistant will be expected to operate and maintain ATVs as well as various types of research equipment. The Research Assistant also will use computer software for data management and statistical analysis.

Qualification Requirements: Education: MS preferred; BS required that focused on forest hydrology, forest management, forest wildlife management, or related biological field. Experience: ground water sampling, forest inventory sampling, database management and programming, GIS and Microsoft applications. Ability to work well independently or within collaborative teams. Previous experience in field and laboratory water quality research is preferred.

Special OR Physical Qualifications: At times, this position may require climbing, standing/sitting for long periods of time, working in adverse weather, and/or heavy lifting of items up to 50 lbs. During busy times of the year, it may be necessary to work beyond the normal 8-hour workday.
