(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Continuation of appointment dependent on funding availability, job performance, and continued need.)
Work Location: The position will be located at the LSU AgCenter Northeast Research Station in St. Joseph, LA. Collaborative work will also be conducted at other LSU AgCenter research stations and off-site locations as necessary.
Position Description: The extension associate will assist extension agents and research scientists with on-farm demonstrations and research station trials and will work under the supervision of the Northeast Region Conservation Agronomist. The extension associate will assist with planning and design of trials, site preparation, planting, managing, harvesting, data scheduling and collection, analysis, presentations and publications. In addition, the extension associate will be required to operate and perform basic maintenance on farm equipment, operate and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, and maintain recorded notes related to research and demonstrations that are being conducted. The extension associate must be able to manage graduate students and provide supervision of and training for coworkers related to job requirements. The extension associate is encouraged to pursue an advanced degree in Agronomy or related field.
Qualification Requirements: B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in a plant or soil science related field. Course work or experience in Agronomy and a strong background in row crop agriculture and soil science are preferred. Experience with row crop production and related environmental issues in the mid-south is desired. Familiarity with farm equipment, handling and applying fertilizers/pesticides, field plot techniques, understanding of demonstration research, monitoring and collection equipment for field runoff and water quality assessment, computer applications, and statistical methodology are desirable.
