Position Description: The LSU AgCenter is seeking a communicator with a broad skillset to work on a grant-funded project. The grant investigates inclusion of best management practices on two Louisiana model farms. One model in row crop production systems in northeast Louisiana and the other on sugarcane production systems in south Louisiana. This position will focus on tasks associated with information dissemination of the grant deliverables. This successful candidate will work closely with the LSU AgCenter communications team and develop content for and create facts sheets, reports, videos, news releases, presentations and interactive graphics. This individual will also be responsible for photography, web portal management and social media for the project and will assist with gathering data for evaluation of the grant’s results.
Louisiana is a key state with a critical interest in nutrient management with contributions of Mississippi River’s drainage basin in the Gulf of Mexico’s hypoxic zone. Through the adoption of best management practices, agricultural producers can play a key role in the reduction of chemicals and pollutants reaching the waters of the United States. Areas of soil health, agricultural nutrient management, and water quality have been identified as high priorities for adoption in agricultural production. Qualification Requirements: Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S degree in mass communications, agricultural or extension education or a closely related field; the ability to effectively communicate both written and orally; be able to travel (drive) independently to northeast and south Louisiana and a willingness to work in inclement weather including extreme heat; and attend field days and workshops related to the grant’s objectives. Ideal candidates will have strong communications and intrapersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and part of a team. The primary office will be in Baton Rouge with the LSU AgCenter.
Salary and Benefits: The salary will be based on degrees and experience. The position is funded for one year with the possibility of four years of additional funding.
