Assistant to the Regional Director (Northeast Region, Scott Research & Extension Center) - Franklin Parish - R00082683

Work Location: This is a regional position that will support and coordinate business activities and general administrative support for the LSU AgCenter Northeast Region. This region includes 12 parishes in northeast Louisiana and three research stations. The position will be domiciled at the LSU AgCenter’s Northeast Region office located in Winnsboro, Louisiana.

Position Description: This is an unclassified position with responsibility for performing and providing coordination of a wide range of activities including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Fiscal Functions - budget monitoring and management, financial records, accounting transactions including purchasing;
  • Grants, Gifts and Contracts - Management and close oversight of all grants, contracts and gifts and subsequent communication with the regional director and other faculty on all fiscal matters including state and federal grants, local funds and agreements, and foundation funds;
  • Human Resources - transactions related to accounting functions, including cost share determinations, salary allocations for support positions, spend authorizations and expense reports;
  • Other Administrative Functions - assisting with inventory, policy updates, directory and web site updates; and
  • General administrative support - receptionist, record-keeping, correspondence and report preparation, meetings and special events planning assistance. Duties will cross all administrative areas and the successful applicant will need to be involved closely with programmatic matters in order to properly perform duties. Must be able to act independently and make decisions based on an understanding of regional director and organizational goals, culture, and philosophy. A key component will be working with and providing technical guidance to parish chairs, research coordinators, and administrative support staff throughout the region, as well as general support to all Northeast Region employees. Serve as liaison with AgCenter central business and administrative offices. Stay abreast of policies, provide technical assistance, and ensure compliance. Maintain close working relationships with a broad range of offices and personnel throughout the AgCenter and external collaborators and stakeholders. Perform other activities as needed.

Qualification Requirements: Baccalaureate degree in a business, math or closely related field and a minimum of one year of related experience. Other baccalaureate or higher degrees will be accepted if combined with at least four years of closely related business/management experience or if the degree included substantial coursework in a business/management field. Familiarity with the functioning of higher education and/or Louisiana state government is desirable. Requires strong organizational, fiscal management, interpersonal, information technology and communication skills.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
