Research Associate Specialist - East Baton Rouge Parish - R00081162

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through 6/30/2027. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

Work Location: Department of Entomology, LSU, Baton Rouge, LA

Position Description: An agricultural research scientist is needed to conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory studies examining ecology and integrated pest management of sugarcane and rice insects. The position is for a full time Research Associate (RA) in the Department of Entomology at Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA). The RA will be expected to work independently to design experiments, collect and analyze data, and publish and present results. Research activities include, but are not limited to collecting and processing rice and sugarcane samples for insect injury, planting experimental plots, conducting insect biology assays in the greenhouse and laboratory.

Qualification Requirements: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Entomology or related field. Master's preferred. Experience working in integrated pest management in agricultural systems is required. Experience working in rice or sugarcane cultivation preferred. Candidates with a working knowledge of row crop production will be preferred. Experience working with agricultural stakeholders is desired. Applicants should be willing and able to perform physical work outdoors. Work will require frequent travel to research sites on experiment stations and commercial farms throughout south Louisiana. Possession of a valid drivers’ license is required.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
