Position Description: The appointment is 12 month (70% research and 30% teaching), tenure-track in soil physics / environmental modeling / hydropedology.
Research: Develop and/or amend environmental impact models (water and air quality) for site-specific conditions. The position is integral to the cropping system modeling group and is supported by soil scientists in other sub-disciplines. The successful candidate will develop interdisciplinary research to advance the understanding of hydrological and pedological processes. Research will include fundamental soil physics and applied hydropedology that address practical issues in environmental and agronomic sciences. Current needs include investigating the effects of management (cover crops, fertilization, pesticide application, tillage, etc.) on the sustainability of agricultural systems themselves and within the broader environment. The position requires obtaining extramural funding in support of research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in soil physics, environmental impact modeling, hydropedology, and other related courses as needed.
Qualification Requirements: PhD in soil physics or closely related discipline with a strong background in mathematics and modeling (including numerical methods and coding) are required. Experience with field and laboratory methods (standard and new or promising), and a commitment to effective teaching is expected. Knowledge and interest in pedology is highly desirable. Must be able to work closely with others and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
