(This is a grant-funded, three year, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)
Work Location: Department of Entomology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA
Position Description: Invasive apple snails are considered one of the top 100 most damaging invasive species globally. Invasion of Louisiana rice and crawfish production systems by apple snails, Pomacea maculata, in recent years threatens to devastate two of the states most economically important agricultural industries. Research into ecology and population dynamics of P. maculata is urgently needed to provide a foundation for integrated control strategies. Federal funds have been obtained to support cooperative research involving scientists studying invasive gastropods with USDA ARS and APHIS which includes a three-year post-doc to conduct research at LSU. Research will include laboratory assays conducted at LSU’s main campus in Baton Rouge as well as field ecology studies in southwestern Louisiana rice and crawfish producing regions.
Qualification Requirements: PhD degree in Entomology or related discipline including Ecology, Biology or Botany. Experience working with invasive species, gastropods, aquatic habitats, integrated pest management, data collection. We seek a candidate with a high standard in scientific writing and oral communication. M.S. degree may be considered with relevant experience.
