Research Associate Specialist (Agronomy) - Tensas Parish - R00068052

(This is a grant funded, non-tenure track position with continuation of appointment dependent on funding availability, job performance, and continued need.)

Work Location: The position will be located at the LSU AgCenter Northeast Research Station in St. Joseph, LA. Collaborative work will also be conducted at other LSU AgCenter research stations and off-site locations as necessary.

Position Description: The incumbent will provide support for the program scientist conducting research and extension programs addressing crop management in agronomic crops. The successful candidate will be expected to operate and maintain various types of research equipment associated with the program and use computer software for data management, statistical analysis, and preparation of presentations for the program scientist. Other responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, calibrating, operating sprayer equipment, fertilizer applicators, planters, as well as operate tillage implements, and harvesting equipment. Routine duties will include plot establishment and maintenance, data collection and analysis and assistance with preparation of reports. During busy times of the year, it may be necessary to work beyond the normal 8-hour workday. Travel to off-site locations will be necessary. In addition, the incumbent will have responsibility for supervising other support personnel.

Qualification Requirements: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, plant pest management, plant science, biological sciences, horticulture, agri-business, or a closely related field is required. Previous experience in agricultural field and greenhouse experimentation, a demonstrable skillset in organization, time management, and pesticide handling, and usage of word-processing, spreadsheet, power point, and data base management software are highly desired. The successful candidate must have acceptable written and oral communication skills.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
