Work Location: School of Nutrition and Food Sciences, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA
Responsibilities: This position will involve research related to improving fish quality through cold chain management and packaging. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working in the field and working in laboratory setting. The individual filling this position will be responsible for managing all laboratory and field activities including inventory and procurement of supplies, as well as supervise undergraduate student workers. The RA will be responsible for coordinating research studies, sample collection, managing, preparation, and analyses. Statistical analysis also will be expected. The position involves supporting and working with faculty, graduate students, as well as state, federal, non-governmental organization, and industry collaborators. Sporadic travel to collect samples within Louisiana is expected, including overnight stays, and occasional weekend work may be required.
Qualification Requirements: B.S. or M.S. in Food Science or similar disciplines with strong background in food microbiology and food quality evaluation. Laboratory experience, excellent communication and writing skills, as well as good interpersonal skills are essential to perform in this position. The candidate should have the ability to perform multiple detail-oriented tasks in a reliable fashion, must be highly motivated with excellent organization and time management skills and able to work independently as well as member of a team. Candidate should have good analytical skill and sound judgment to make decisions regarding the reliability of results. Candidate needs to be able to prepare written and/or verbal reports on status of research and the technical procedures used; providing statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions to assist with publications.
