The Research Associate (Lab technician) position will be renewed annually based on availability of funds and successful performance review.

Work Location: Department of Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA.

Job Description: The Oliveira-Garcia laboratory at Louisiana State University is recruiting a Research Associate. The primary responsibility will be to assist with planning, coordinating, and executing laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments on plant disease diagnosis and management. Major tasks associated with the job include, but are not limited to, DNA/RNA extraction, culture media preparation, isolation and storage of pathogens, conducting inoculation experiments, DNA sequencing, PCR, Southern blots, plasmid construction etc. The individual is also expected to assist the PI it tasks that will ensure the proper functioning of the lab. Individual will have the opportunity to participate in scientific meetings and contribute to writing manuscripts.

Qualifications: BS/MS in biology, agronomy, plant pathology or related field. Preferred qualifications include experience working with rice, wheat, corn or other field crops, and basic plant pathology lab skills. Individual is expected to be a fast learner, with good communication skills, and have a collaborative nature. A valid Louisiana State driver’s license and ability to drive is required at the time of appointment or soon thereafter.
