(This is a non-tenure position through January 2023. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
WORK LOCATION: Agricultural Chemistry Department, LSU Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
NATURE OF WORK: This is a 12-month non-tenured position that will be 100% extension. Responsibilities will include maintaining the high impact, nationally recognized Pesticide Safety Education Program and provide leadership and subject matter support through collaborative working relationships at the regional, state, multi-state, and national levels. Duties will predominantly focus on providing training to enhance pesticide safety education to currently certified pesticide applicators and those applicators that wish to become certified pesticide applicators. This will include delivering and developing innovative and creative educational programs and educational study manuals. This position will coordinate with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry manual and exam revisions for certification of pesticide applicators. This individual will also be expected to assist county agents on private pesticide applicator training and pesticide safety education. In addition, this position will be asked to work with state pesticide applicator professional organizations where appropriate to assist in pesticide safety education. Other responsibilities could include other duties as assigned by appropriate administrators.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications: (This will be used on the matrix to rate candidates. Do not list soft skills such as: good communication skills, ability to work in a fast pasted environment, etc.) M.S. degree or higher in a crop protection-related discipline such as entomology, plant pathology, weed science, agronomy, or closely related field. M.S. degree and 3 years of related experience; or a combination of education and/or experience totaling 9 years. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position. Experience in managing budgets and staff. Experience with grant writing and obtaining funds for program support. Demonstrate a broad knowledge of Louisiana agronomic pest management, pesticide application and applicator safety, and environmental issues associated with pesticide use. Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state pesticide regulations. Experience developing multimedia educational material
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
