(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through November 2022. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

NATURE OF WORK: A multi-investigator team based at LSU AgCenter is seeking a Research Associate to assist with diverse field, and lab work as part of a research program focused on oyster population dynamics, local adaptation, physiology, aquaculture and restoration. Applicants should hold a graduate degree (MS/MA) in biology, oceanography, or related field and lab and field experience working with shellfish, fisheries, or aquaculture. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working in the field, driving and trailering boats, maintaining lab equipment and experiments, and collecting field data. The successful candidate will be involved in a large-scale multi-investigator project involving the assessment of oyster population performance when exposed to different stressors, field grow-out studies, measurement of metabolic rates, and laboratory assays examining oyster stress response, and will be expected to help maintain lab and field equipment and vehicles, and oyster populations at grow-out sites. The position involves supporting and working with faculty, graduate students, as well as state, federal and non-governmental organization collaborators. Frequent travel to Grand Isle, LA and LUMCON are expected. Travel to field sites, including overnight stays, and occasional weekend work may be required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must hold an MS/MA degree in biological sciences, natural resources management, marine science, or a related field. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) experience working in the field, driving boats and collecting field and laboratory data; (2) ability to work extended days, including some weekends, outside during hot and cold days and carry heavy loads; (3) experience working in a laboratory, maintaining water quality in tanks, and running assays, and (4) experience working with spreadsheets, GIS, Google Earth Engine, and the ability to work independently, create work plans, and meet deadlines.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
