Dr. Meggan Franks’ expertise lies in applied research that drives community action, experiential learning, and mixed-method evaluation. She has designed, certified, and taught experiential learning courses across disciplines, chaired the CE Course and Curriculum Committee (while at MSU), and mentored faculty in embedding applied research and engagement into teaching and scholarship. She also co-created and implemented institution-wide systems for evaluating outreach and program impact, including the LSU AgCenter Extension Reporting System (LERS), and developed place-based experiential programs for K–12 and college students.
Dr. Franks advances applied research that informs community resilience and sustainability. She has co-led major proposal efforts, including the NSF Engines proposal: Louisiana Disaster Reduction Initiative (DRI) where she directed the statewide needs assessment, conducted the SWOT analysis, and authored over half the narrative. Her work demonstrates a strong record of translating research into action, strengthening partnerships, and addressing practical community needs.
Research Expertise
Dr. Franks conducts applied research that translates into community action, integrating qualitative and quantitative methods. She is skilled in advanced multivariate analysis, including exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and moderation/mediation (including serial mediation). Her work combines rigorous statistical approaches with qualitative methods to evaluate behavior change, program adoption, and resilience outcomes, producing evidence-based insights to inform policy and practice.
In addition, Dr. Franks is an active Louisiana 4-H Club Leader in East Baton Rouge, where her club membership exceeds 45 youth.
