Sugar Research Station

Sugarcane field.
The primary goal of the Sugar Research Station, which is located on nearly 600 acres in St. Gabriel, is development of new sugarcane varieties and integrated pest management systems for sugarcane. New variety development takes nearly 12 years, and much of the groundwork is performed here. Every July, the station hosts a field day to inform farmers of the most recent technology. Through the work carried out at this station, Louisiana's sugarcane industry remains profitable and poised to continue a tradition that is more than 200 years old.
