Savage Wonder Pole Bean

Savage Wonder (Giant Stringless Greenpod X Kentucky Wonder outcrossed to Savage) was part of a breeding program initiated in 1938 by Dr. J.C. Miller to develop improved stringless pole snap beans that could withstand Louisiana’s hot and humid conditions. This effort was aimed at extending the growing season for more fresh and canning varieties to produce throughout the summer for home gardeners and consumers. This black seeded variety was acquired through GRIN (PI 549823) and grown out for seed increase and evaluation in 2021 and 2023.In 2021, it performed well, yielding 3^rd highest closely after Green Savage and Canfreezer. No major pests or diseases were observed. It lived up to its description as being prolific, stringless, and heat tolerant, making it yet another worthy candidate for modern home gardens.62 days to maturity.
