Easyshell Lima Bean

Easyshell (Fordhook X Carolina Sieva) lives up to its name as it was soon discovered after harvesting the first ‘mess’ from the 2023 Preservation Garden. This lima bean, developed by Dr. J.C. Miller & W. A. Young in 1959, has puffy pods, making it easy to shell with just a pop along the seam. A plot was grown out from GRIN (PI 549484) which produced an excellent spring and late summer crop. Sturdy trellising is required, as vines are very vigorous. No diseases were observed. This crop produced effortlessly during the brutal summer 2024 drought with very little rainfall or irrigation. Makes an excellent home garden pole lima bean.60-70 days to maturity.
