Canfreezer (Giant Stringless Greenpod X Ideal Market Pole) was developed by Dr. Julian C. Miller in 1948 for it’s canning and freezing characteristics, as the name implies. It is a high yielding pole green bean variety with long slender, stringless pods that maintain their firmness through preservation methods. This black seeded variety was acquired from GRIN (PI 632354) and grown out for evaluation and seed increase in 2021 and 2023.In 2021, it was the second highest yielding pole bean after Green Savage. This data tracks with historical data collected during initial trials in the early 1950’s where it was a close second in yield to Green Savage. Dr. Miller also concluded that Green Savage did not hold up as well to freezing or canning, making it a better variety for fresh market only, while Canfreezer was ideal for both fresh and canning. This variety was easy to grow, very heat tolerant, and prolific. No major pests or diseases were observed. It is worthy of any modern spring or fall garden. 60 Days to maturity.

First handful of Canfreezer harvested in 2021 for yield weights.
