Facilities and infrastructure at the Bob R. Jones Idlewild Research Station currently available for use by the Bob R. Jones Wildlife Research Institute:
Newly remodeled 5,000 sq. ft. office, lab, and conference building. Conference room seats 70. Wi-Fi enabled.
Separate wet lab complete with incubators, freezers, fume hood, microscopes, autoclave, and 80 ft. of bench space.
60 acres of high-fence breeding and research pens housing 100 adult captive whitetail deer.
30 acres of high-fence breeding and research pens housing 50 adult captive red deer.
Deer enclosures include a 2,000 sq. ft. deer working barn complete with moveable dividers, sliding door separation cells, weigh box and drop bottom deer immobilization unit.
1,200 sq. ft. insectory/vector lab to support ongoing wildlife disease research.
1,800 acres of available research land, property of the LSU AgCenter (1,500 acres forested and 300 acres open) available for upland wildlife research. Property includes approximately two miles of spring fed flowing stream. The property accommodates wild resident populations of whitetail deer, eastern wild turkey, bob white quail, beavers, otters, feral swine and numerous small quadrupeds. An adjacent 5,000 acre property available of wildlife research made available by agreement with Bob R. Jones Wildlife Institute board member.
A 60 acre man-made lake stocked with a variety of native fish that also accommodates a number of migratory waterfowl.
Future plans for housing for overnight researchers.
