Frostproof Gardenia

Do you love the heavenly fragrance of gardenia, but hate the fuss of the traditional plant? Then Frostproof gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides Frostproof) is the answer to your gardening dilemma.

This evergreen shrub produces fragrant, double, velvety white flowers heavily in May and then sporadically through the summer.

Frostproof, as its name implies, is more cold ardy than other gardenias. It has also proven to be tough, not as finicky and more adaptable to varying soil conditions.

The foliage of the plant has shiny and rich deep-green leaves that last throughout the year. The leaves are somewhat smaller than most other gardenia varieties, giving the plant an attractive medium-to-fine texture.

The well-branched shrub has a natural mound shape, require little pruning to maintain. Growing about 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide, it is considered a compact gardenia.

The Frostproof gardenia has all the wonderful qualities of the gardenia without all the fuss. This Louisiana Super Plant is an excellent choice to "perfume" your garden with an easy-care, low-growing gardenia.
