The LSU AgCenter Dean Lee Research and Extension Center in Alexandria hosted a field day on July 17, 2014. The event took place at the State Evacuation Shelter at 8125 US Highway 71 South. Over 200 participants were updated on research on various row crops and management of insects, weeds and diseases. Fields tours of the station were given on weed and insect management, optimizing yields in soybeans, grain sorghum agronomy research, corn and cotton research and insect pest management.
Chris Coreil, an agronomist with the National Resources Conservation Service, made a presentation outside the shelter featuring a rainwater simulation. The indoor session featured a presentation on feral hogs in Louisiana. AgCenter updates were provided by Dr. Bill Richardson, LSU vice president for agriculture.
