The 4-H rabbit project can be a fun, engaging, rewarding experience. This project can be successful in urban or rural areas and is ideal for those with limited space. Rabbits can be raised for pleasure or profit. You can have them as pets, show them or raise them for their meat, fur or fertilizer. Many 4-H members and adults enjoy showing their rabbits at fairs and rabbit shows. In the world we are in today urbanization and less space are becoming more and more commonplace, and the rabbit project gives youth today a way to become involved in the livestock project with limited money and space. The 4-H Livestock project encompasses all of the before mentioned by allowing youth in Louisiana to learn leadership, citizenship, and life skills through hands-on-learning opportunities. 4-H livestock participants gain independent responsibility, knowledge of production agriculture and sciences through livestock projects.
Here in West Feliciana Parish, we have our rabbit project club that will meet a few times before the shows. At those meetings, we will be focusing on a different aspects of rabbit care and prepare for premier exhibitor, showmanship and exhibition showing. If you are interested in learning more about the rabbit project or rabbit club, please contact us here at the 4-H Office. You can contact us 225-635-3614.
