Summer is approaching fast and vacation time is right around the corner. Eating out of the home will be on the rise and is done by more than half of the country. Making wise choices while on vacation is something that everyone should consider to have and maintain a healthy lifestyle and be successful. Here are a few tips to follow when eating out on vacation:

  • Educate yourself on the restaurant. Check to see if they do special request on food preparation. Drink a glass or two of water or eat something light to curb appetite so that overeating is not an option.
  • Select your food carefully, selecting foods low in calories and fat. Order a small salad before ordering the main meal. Ask   for vinegar instead of regular salad dressing.
  • When ordering, go with first mind. Avoid ordering fried food and foods that include sauces, gravies or butter. Ask to have food grilled with lemon over top.
  •  For dessert, choose sherbet or low-fat ice cream, something not rich in calories or cream. When feeling full after eating meal, don’t order dessert. Snack at home, if hungry later.
  • Always increase exercise if eating more than normal.

Remember, just because its vacation time doesn’t mean that good food is off limits, but that limiting good food is a MUST.

So, let’s eat healthy and enjoy our VACATION in the sun. FUN!FUN!FUN!
