Throughout the month of April and leading up to Achievement Day in May 2011, we will be collecting items to make care packages to send to American soldiers in Afghanistan. Items that can be sent are listed on the attached flyer.
Let’s show our support for the men and women currently serving our country. Letters will be written to place in each care package.
Pups-in-the-Park was held March 26, 2011, and was a huge success. 4-H partnered with the Rotary Club of Laplace to host Pups-in-the-Park. More than 30 participants and their pets enjoyed the fun activities in the park. A booth was set up for making dog toys to donate to the animal shelter. Participants also donated a $1 to the Junior Leader program. We look forward to hosting this event next year.
4-H Achievement Day is scheduled for May 10, 2011, at West St. John High School. Sign in will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the club procession beginning promptly at 10 a.m.
The St. John Parish School Board will provide transportation to and from this event, but each club leader is responsible for contacting Johnny Owens to make these arrangements. Mr. Owens can be reached by email at email@example.com or by phone at 985-536-1106 Ext. 2241.
Achievement Day will end promptly at 1 p.m. so that buses can stay on schedule. If you have any questions regarding Achievement Day, please contact Mrs. Aimee at 985-497-3261.
4-H University, also known as 4-H U is scheduled for June 21-24, 2011, at the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, La. This camp is open to all students in grades 8th -12th in the state.
If you are interested in attending 4-H U, please complete the attached form and return by May 2, 2011, to P.O. Box 250, Edgard, LA 70049. More information on 4-H U will be forthcoming.

4-H Day at the Capitol is an annual statewide gathering of 4-H’ers and leaders at the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, La. Students from near and far gather here to tour the capitol and visit with local legislators.
The 2011 4-H Day at the Capitol is scheduled for June 1, 2011 beginning at 10 a.m. on the steps of the capitol. Transportation to and from this event will be provided. The bus will depart from East St. John High School at 8 a.m. and will return to the high school by 3 p.m. Please bring a bagged lunch for this event. Students and leaders/volunteers will picnic on the front lawn of the capitol.
