Outstanding Achiever of the Month

The St. John the Baptist Parish 4-H Office will highlight outstanding achievers in the monthly newsletter! Each club leader will select an outstanding achiever based upon his or her accomplishments. The name of the student, picture of the student, and description of the actual accomplishment or award will be turned in to the St. John Parish 4-H Office. The St. John Parish 4-H Office will select the month’s Outstanding Achiever.

Announcing!!! 4-H Cookery Contest 4-H Food Focus Workshop

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the 4-H Office, located in Edgard. Get the edge on the competition for the Food Focus Contest by learning some great tips in preparing tasty food dishes. Contest rules will be distributed at the workshop. Please complete attached entry form and fax to 4-H office 985-497-3409 by Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. We look forward to your participation!!!

4-H Food Focus Contest

The 4-H Food Focus Contest will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at the Andouille Festival. Registration starts at 12:00 noon. All entries must be in by 12:30 p.m. Judging will be from 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. Awards presentation will be at 3:30 p.m. in Kids Zone.

4-H Pumpkin Contest!!!

The St. John Parish 4-H Pumpkin Decorating Contest will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at the 4-H Office!!! Pumpkins must be turned in at the 4-H Office by 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011. Judging and award presentation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at the 4-H Office.

Junior Leaders

The Junior Leaders Club is a parish wide community service club; open to all students in grades 8th-12th in St. John the Baptist Parish. The fee to participate in the Junior Leaders Club is $5.00. Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month. The Junior Leaders meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the St. John Parish Library, at 2920 New Highway 51, Laplace, LA. Take part in the fun!!! Become a Junior Leader!!!

4-H Night with the Hornets!

The LSU AgCenter is pleased to announce that they have teamed up with the New Orleans Hornets again this year. This year will be bigger and better than ever. The 4-H Night with the Hornets basketball game will be Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 versus the Portland Trail Blazers. 4-H members will have an opportunity to participate in several on court programs again this year.

Trick-Or-Treat Safety Tips

Always trick-or-treat in groups. There should always be at least one adult with the group.

*Do not eat any of your treats until they have been inspected by an adult. Do not eat homemade treats.

*Always carry a flashlight so that others can see you.

*Never trick-or-treat in dark or unfamiliar places.

*Costumes should fit right so that they do not pose a hazard and should be flame resistant.

*Never go to a home that is dark.

*Never enter someone’s home.

National 4-H Week

National 4-H Week is Oct. 2-8, 2011. Please plan some type of activity with your club during this week.

National Homeless and Awarness Week

National Homeless and Awareness Week is Nov. 13 - 19, 2011. Please plan some type of activity with your club during this week.

LSU AgCenter Broiler Show

Attention 4-H’ers!!! It is time to start thinking about the LSU AgCenter Junior Broiler Show. Judging will be on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. If you are interesting in competing, you must inform the St. John Parish 4-H Office by Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011. We are looking forward to your participation!

Attention Livestock Competitors!!!

*Any 4-H Members interested in exhibiting livestock must contact the 4-H Office by Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011.

*The deadline for possession of any livestock animal to be exhibited is Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.

*All livestock animals that will be exhibited in any upcoming shows must be tagged by Nov. 7, 2011.
